Israel compared with Nazi Germany at Chabad in Oxford

Red Tulips (whom I have actually met!) was in the Chabad House at Oxford (England) (pictured) this past weekend at almost exactly the moment when Chabad House in Mumbai was being retaken. She has written an essay describing her experience, which I urge you all to read in full: At almost the exact moment that Chabad House in Mumbai was being retaken, Israel was being compared to Nazi Germany at Chabad House in Oxford.
But then, the speakers spoke. The topic was Obama and his effect upon the Middle East. The first speaker was a leftist, who apparently wanted Obama to press for 'peace,' whatever that means, for Israel. The second speaker was a Palestinian, who compared Israel to Nazi Germany, and then spoke of the horrors of his two day detention in a West Bank prison, and how he made an Israeli guard break down in tears when he compared the situation to Nazi Germany. He also spoke of the need for Israel to be forced to accept 'peace.' He said he is dismayed that Obama will be too pro-Israel. The third speaker was half Jewish, half Palestinian, and again compared Israel to Nazi Germany, claiming that when a little Palestinian girl wets her bed due to Israeli aggression, it is comparable to the hell his Jewish family has endured in pogroms and Nazi camps. The fourth speaker was Jewish and spoke about the need for Obama to push for a regional peace, but was not optimistic about the chances for such a peace.

None of the speakers were actually experts on Israel, 'Palestine' (a state which does not exist), or the Middle East. They rather were Americans, pushed to speak for reasons I cannot understand.

In short, at the Chabad in Oxford, on the very night that the Holtzbergs were murdered, Israel was compared to Nazi Germany.

Read the whole thing.

Jews will invite their worst enemies to denounce them. Pride and self-respect? Its not in the Jewish lexicon. Perhaps one expects too much even from non-Zionist Jews.

There's a shaliach that needs to either be excommunicated or rehabbed off of vodka.

When a Jew dares to fight back and not be willingly murdered that is a crime...

Shy Guy,

I am not sure if I was 100% clear...

The rabbi was not antizionist, and claimed to genuinely love Israel. He just had apparently given up on bothering to find a true zionist speaker, and set the bar so low for a speaker, that what I heard that night was considered 'zionist.'

Red, OK, but like I said, no vodka for 2 months.

Seriously, whoever was in charge caused a tremendous desecration to G-d's name.

Chabad should install someone else to take this shaliach's place. It's called responsibility for one's actions. Maybe I'm showing my age.

Tulips responded with a very good question at Chabad.

You should add that in the essay. :-)

Daniel,

It used to be Shmuly Boteach's Chabad House. But he now lives in the States.

I am just appalled...
To compare Israel to Nazi Germany is pure blasphemy. NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING can be compared, EVER, with Nazi Germany and the fact that this Rabbi let those words reach the consciousness of an assembly inside a Chabad House is borderline criminal. The people went home that night with two things in mind: Israel is guilty of crime against humanity and must be forced to accept peace. It will take years, if ever, for those people to seek truth from experts who actually know what they are talking about. It's embedded in their soul. The feathers are already blown away in all directions...

It reminds me of the Philippe Karsenty vs. France 2: Al Durah case. Years after the events, and although it was recognized that the tape was an hoax by the french court, we can't claim to a victory for the images, diffused on French national TV, reached millions of people who will never seek the truth.

In my opinion, this Rabbi should be reprimanded, if not sanctioned or simply replaced. Not only his choice of speakers was totally inappropriate but absolutely irresponsible. By the way, while this Palestinian played the sentimental card (their favorite tactic), i have one question: what was he doing in jail in the first place?...

Bottom line, this doesn't improve our already tarnished P.R. on a global level.

When are we going to assume who we are?
When are we going to stop handing the stick to beat us up, in the name of freedom of speech or democracy?
