I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. You can contact me at: IsraelMatzav at gmail dot com

Thanks for the hat tip, Carl.
When my friend sent it, I sat here numb. I still am.

Hitler knew who he was since his teens. And his were views well known in Germany by the 1930s. He wasn't an empty suit. He had a vision and clear set of ideas. That the German elites thought they could use his popularity and control him for their own ends was one of history's biggest mistakes. In contrast, no one knows Obama or exactly what he stands for. I think the comparison is too far a reach. If people did know who Obama was, the election result might have turned out different. And Hitler had to be appointed Chancellor since he could never gain a clear majority of the German people to back him after he gained power, not even in the last free election in Germany on March 5, 1933.
Let's not resort to astrology please. One thing about European fascism, and Islamic fascism for that matter, is this appeal to a greater, almost godlike past. Hitler wanted to restore the greatness of the Nordic ways, the Wahabists want to restore the golden age of Islam, Mussolini was rebuilding Rome. Obama doesn't have that 'glorious past mode'.
We, as Jews, really have to get a better understanding of the roots of the Holocaust--because this isn't going to stop, attempts at our destruction, until we understand our own traditions, history, and scripture.

Agreed. There will always be recurrent attempts to destroy the Jewish people. As Ecclesiastes wrote, "there's nothing new under the sun." So it is with the oldest hatred in the world, anti-Semitism.
I guessed the punchline halfway through.
But that's because I just watched "The Boys from Brazil" the other day. :)
