I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Why wasn't there a hellfire presented to the victors by way of an Israeli UAV? Why are we letting these thugs have those weapons? Take 'em out! Take them all out! Those very weapons will be used to try to kill our boys.

No, Shy Guy, we're not stupid. We are empathetic lovers of peace. Sometimes we love peace so much it clouds our vision and it's hard to see that in certain situations, the quickest path to peace is through war.

There's a difference between peace and pacifism. There's a pacifist spirit that's conquered the IDF, embodied in the so-called tohar haneshek, "purity of arms" concept, which is basically that Israel must stay its hand in liquidating the murderers of Jews out of a misplaced sense of moral sensitivity.
The prophet Samuel called it the mercy of a fool and when King Saul refused to kill King Agag, the prophet went on to set the right example for the Jew. You are to kill the enemy without mercy and destroy him utterly. You are not to allow in war, humane sentiment and feelings of kindness to intervene in its stead. For the enemy, will not if he should be victorious, display them towards you! Incidentally, there is no pacifism in The Koran.
