Just what the world needs: Another Islamic bomb

'Our friends the Saudis' are going nucular.
The Council of Ministers yesterday approved the Kingdom’s agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the application of safeguards in the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and its attached protocol.

The decision was taken in the council’s weekly meeting chaired by Crown Prince Sultan at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah, said Culture and Information Minister Iyad Madani in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency.

“After listening to reports on the developments in Mauritania, the escalating violence in Somalia and other developments in the Arab world, the council affirmed that the best method to iron out differences would be by making reconciliation that puts national interests before partisan conflicts and ideological affiliations,” Madani said.

The council also stressed the need for supporting Arab institutions that strive to reach agreements between feuding parties so that no foreign elements can interfere and exploit the situation, the minister added.
And why do the Saudis 'need' to develop nuclear energy?
While it might seem strange that the world’s largest producer of oil and the one believed to have the largest oil reserve would need nuclear power to supply the county with electricity, many analysts say that with crude oil prices at record levels it makes economic sense to sell the oil abroad and use nuclear power at home.
Yeah, sure. And if gas goes back to $1.50 a gallon they're going to stop with the nuclear project?
