Video: Interview with Chairman of Iran's Joint Chiefs of Staff

This is an interview with Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Iran's equivalent of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. There are a couple of things worth noting here. First, note whom he identifies as the enemy. Despite all of Ahmadinejad's threats against Israel, Israel isn't the enemy - or at least isn't at the top of his list. Second, note what he says about how the Iraqis were their 'brothers' and that Iran's treatment of Americans will be far worse than the way Iraqis were treated during the Iran-Iraq War. The hatred between the Arab Iraqis and the Persian Iranians goes back centuries. Iraq used poison gas during the war both on Iranians and on its own civilians. This is a blood rivalry. Iran regards America as worse. 'Nuff said. Let's go to the videotape.

Interesting interview. Iran fears the U.S more than it fears Israel. But I think the Iranians are blinded by the divisions and debates they see playing out in free societies as a sign of their inherent weakness. When a free society does go to war with a dictatorship, it can be a very formidable and terrifying foe. The Germans and Japanese learned of the nature of the American soldier during World War II. It would be no different if there were was a formal armed conflict between the U.S and Iran. Iran's hatred for America is quite obvious but its also clear they don't really understand Americans all that well.
