About Me
- Name: Carl in Jerusalem
- Location: Jerusalem, Israel
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. You can contact me at: IsraelMatzav at gmail dot com

Carl - the demonstration in Um el Fahm underlined something that the late Rabbi Meir Kahane z"tl, observed 20 years ago to the vehement opposition of his Leftist critics: the Arabs in Israel regard the Jew as the interloper and they cannot be bought with material improvements and government benefits. They will not give up their Arab nationalism in return for a hand-out from the Jew. This isn't really surprising. Then again, the Israel's Left's Oslo policy has been based on a flight of fantasy and a denial of human nature. The notion the peace process would turn Israel's Arabs into a bridge of tolerance and good will for Israel to the Arab World died at Um el Fahm. What is clear is the Arabs within the Green Line no more accept Israel's existence than the Arabs outside of it. And this anti-Zionist fifth column is allowed to be seated in the Knesset as the moral equal of the Jews, who are loyal to the state.
Israel cannot long survive without solving the 20% Arabs inside Israel and whatever one thinks of the late Kahane's solutions, he saw things very dispassionately and in the end he was proved right. Effie Eitam might as well have said every thinking Jew in Israel is a Kahanist now. When you consider Jews cannot buy property and live in any Arab town in Israel but Arabs can live in Haifa and Tel Aviv, something is wrong.
The Arab minority cannot be integrated into Israel like the blacks can be integrated into America. A different solution must be found for them, in order to preserve Israel as a Jewish State.
This is what I wrote to my dad...
Hi Dad,
This will give you a better idea about what I spoke about yesterday. The Arab Israeli MKs are traitors to Israel and the Jewish people, and yet they reflect a position which is, if anything, more liberal than Fatah. How do you make peace with a people like this, when the Arab MKs are horrifyingly the best it gets?
