The point isn't whether Obama is a Muslim
At Right Wing Nut House, Rick Moran has had it with all the "Obama is a mooslim crap."Rick, the point isn't whether Obama is a 'Mooslim.' I'm willing to take him at his word that he is not currently a practicing Muslim. The question is whether his upbringing has left him with residual sympathies towards Muslims that are likely to prevent him from fully prosecuting the war on terror, and to influence him to abandon America's most loyal ally, Israel. So far, the evidence leans towards the answer to those questions being yes, Obama does have residual sympathies towards Islam that will prevent him from fully prosecuting the war on terror and that will facilitate his abandoning Israel. That's what worries me about him.I am usually quite proud of being a conservative. I know in my heart that the only way to enjoying liberty under the law AND equality of justice is through the application of conservative principles to government and society. And I am usually proud of the rational, reasonable basis on which most conservatives see the world and evaluate people and events.
That’s why it embarrasses me to no end to see fellow conservatives who actually believe that Barack Obama is some kind of “Manchurian Candidate” sent by Muslims to undermine American society. Or that Obama is a closet Muslim just waiting to take power before unmasking himself. Or perhaps most bizarrely, since Obama was born to a Muslim father, he is a Muslim whether he wants to be or not and that Muslims elsewhere will not let him forget his heritage.
There are other permutations to this theme involving Obama’s middle name of Hussein which to some of my fellow conservatives is a dead giveaway that he is Muslim. And there are no end of theories, rumors, tall tales, and outright lies about Obama’s Muslim childhood spent at this madrass or that mosque which “proves” him to be a son of Islam.

A far more interesting question: is Barack Obama a Christian or a lapsed Muslim? If he is a convert to Christianity, good Muslims are obliged to kill one who has changed his religion. Its something no one has so far discussed. Voters deserve to know his real beliefs and how they would influence his policies in the event he was elected President. Preferably before the election, so Americans can know what to expect.
To me, it's not whether he's a Muslim. I disagree with him on enough issues (e.g., abortion) to disqualify him as a candidate.
Scary thought: He might be just as sympathetic to Islam if he had no such background. Being a liberal Democrat might be enough all by itself! After all, think of Nancy "Dhimmi" Pelosi and her visit to the Middle East!
