Olmert gives Sderot the finger
At the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee today, Prime Minister Ehud K. Olmert (pictured at top left with his alter-ego) gave Sderot his middle finger. Launching a wide-scale operation in Gaza would be imprudent and ill-advised, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said during a Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee meeting on Monday.Can anyone imagine Olmert reacting this way if it were Tel Aviv under fire? But Sderot is mostly poor, mostly Sephardi and mostly Likud voters, while Tel Aviv is mostly wealthy, mostly Ashkenazi and mostly votes for parties on the left. In other words, Sderot is NotInMyBackYard. And so Sderot suffered from one rocket after another last week - minus the 3000 residents who have left to become refugees like those expelled from Gaza, while Olmert sipped champagne with George and Condi.
"I highly recommended that we do not get tangled up in operations and costs which are disproportionate to the constraints we are facing," he said.
Olmert expressed his satisfaction with the IDF's performance in fighting terror organizations in the Gaza Strip. "I think that hundreds of dead terrorists in Gaza over the past year are a very significant loss for the terror organizations.," he said
Having said that, Olmert reiterated that in the future he might decide to approve a wide-scale operation in Gaza if he decides it was necessary.
Olmert should be tied to a lamppost in Sderot to await the next Kassam rocket. Maybe then he'd send the IDF into Gaza.

Carl - tongue in cheek, if they tied up the entire Israeli Cabinet to lampposts in Sderot, they'd certainly move fast. For Kadima and Labor, the poor Mizrahi development towns are not where their voters are. Cities and towns like Sderot are still Second Class Israeli in the eyes of the Ashkenazi elite that runs the country.

I just realized that Olmert seems to have an advanced case of Clownophobia, and that could possibly explain some of his bizarre behavior.
On the serious side, he and his buddies should have to live in Sderot for 2 weeks, and deal with hearing 'Tzeva Adom', and having only 15 seconds to run for their lives. That is the very least they should do.
