David Duke and Vlaams Belangs

I'm sure many - if not most - of my readers read other blogs on the right of the blogosphere. Over the last month or two, there has been a controversy which is now mainly being carried out between Little Green Footballs and Gates of Vienna, both of which are written by people I consider to be friends, even if we have never met in person.

The controversy relates to the involvement of political parties with white supremacist pasts (if not presents) in the counter-jihad in Europe.

I've tried to avoid taking a position publicly only because I want to maintain my personal relations with both sides. But I have found it difficult to countenance being allied with persons who apparently have a Nazi past - if not a pro-Nazi present, even if that alliance is against militant Islam, which is currently the greatest threat to world peace.

I also have not done the research to understand what's behind these European parties, and so I have hesitated to comment on the subject. Last night, someone did it for me.

Epaminondas, of the Infidel Bloggers Alliance (who also posts with me over at Maverick News Media) did such a good job of summing up my feelings about this controversy, that I believe the best service I can do for all of you who have not followed the controversy is to tell you to read the whole thing. Once you've done that, if you're interested in following it through further, I suggest that you go to LGF and Gates and read both sides of the controversy. Unfortunately, with all of my commitments, it is all I can do to keep up with what is going on in Israel.

I suspect DeWinter is indeed a racist, I heard the Tom Paine interview. However, he may indeed have talked with the current Chief Rabbi of Antwerp, Rabbi David Moshe Lieberman.

I hate the expression "the truth is somewhere in between", but I like when I'm able to say "you are both right". You are both right Ed and Carl! Read here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Community_of_Antwerp
----
The religious community is represented by two religious councils, known as kehillas:

* The Israëlitische Gemeente van Antwerpen Shomre Hadass; primarily oriented towards the Modern Orthodox community. It is led by Chief Rabbi M. Lieberman. This council also espouses the values of religious Zionism, and maintains a pro-Israel stance in community affairs.
* The Orthodoxe Israëlitische Gemeente Machsike Hadass, represents the ultra-orthodox Haredi community. Since the death of Chief Rabbi Chaim Kreiswirth, infighting and disagreements have prevented the Machsike Hadass from appointing a new Chief Rabbi.

I found this photo of Dewinter shaking hands with a rabbi, at the DowneastBlog in a post from 2004.

I'm quoting from the post:

>>Because a picture tells more than a 1,000 words, as the cliché goes, I provide here a photo depicting Filip Dewinter, VB chairman in Antwerp, shaking hands with the well-known rabbi Pinchas Meyers. In the former you will recognize the man on the poster from yesterday's article. In addition, I can tell you that Dewinter has also held talks with Jewish former town official André Gantman, in which he distanced himself explicitly from each and any form of anti-Semitism.

The VB itself does the same, but I’m giving this example because Dewinter himself is really the face of the VB, not only in Antwerp but also in the rest of the country. Scroll down this site, and you will find plenty of evidence of extensive contacts between the VB and Jews in Antwerp. In addition, I might add that Dewinter has given interviews to Jewish newspaper Maariv supporting Israëls cause, and that Dewinter on March 23rd of this year, upon introducing Israeli author Avi Lipkin, a former spokesman of the Israeli army, to a VB audience, said that Israel is "the vanguard of the West in a feudal Middle East."

He’s not the only one though: Marc Joris, another well-known VB figure from Antwerp co-runs with female Jewish filmmaker Tami Lorjé the site Kristalhelder, a site providing background info on Israël from the point where MSM info on that country STOPS... Such is the vigor with which Mr. Joris, a Holocaust Denier as the PC cabal would want us to believe, has committed himself to the defence of Jews in Belgium, that he is affectionately known among the members of that community as Yachem Joris , meaning "Little Jew Joris">>

Also:

>>In March 2004, Filip Dewinter held in a meeting organized by the Antwerp VB chapter a passionate plea for the State of Israel, saying that "Israel is the vanguard of the West in a feudal Middle East". Among those present was Avi Lipkin, a jewish author and former spokesman for the Israeli Army. Dewinter's speech was so eloquent and convincing, highlighting Israels brave struggle and its prodigious accomplishments, that after the speech Mr. Lipkin HEARTILY EMBRACED FILIP DEWINTER!!!>>

I have watched this blood letting, purge, call it what you may on LGF with a mounting sense of despair. (The narcissism of minor differences) to quote Freud, completely unnecessary and petty, my political convictions are purer and white than yours is not my cup of tea. I can only give you my personal opinion for what it is worth. I have met Filip de Winter on several occasions. The last but one was on Sept 11 in Brussels. I was standing just a couple of yards from him. He was giving an interview to a camera team. He was causing no trouble he was wrestled to the ground by several Waloonian police men handcuffed with plastic wraps and thrown onto a bus. I took several pictures of him lying on the ground being handcuffed. I spoke to him several weeks later in the E.U. parliament during the Anti jihad conference, also at the diner later that night in the Flemish parliament. If the man is a fascist Nazi I am a monkeys uncle. Right wing Nationalist he might be but fascist certainly not. As I say these are my personal view, and I could be wrong. I find this guilt by association rather obnoxious, as far as I am concerned he can have a celtic cross on his bookshelf, it is immaterial to what books he has on his bookshelf. What he reads is a better indication of the man himself. Albert Goring Herman Goring's brother was arrested by the Americans and keep in prison for several months after the war. It was only by the testimony of the Jews he had helped to escape to Switzerland that he was released. He was also later arrested by the Checks, also on suspicion of being a Nazi, another long spell in prison before he was released. He couldn't get a job after the war and lived in relative poverty. If anybody else had done what he had done he would have been given a medal, instead he was shunned. Why because he was called Goring, guilt by association. I have also met Fjordman, spoken to him on several occasions, very soft spoken quiet, and certain not a Fascist the vitriolic witch hunt was certainly not deserved. Paul Belien of Brussels journal is another one I gather came in for the treatment. Paul surprisingly tall and soft spoken with a strong catholic faith, certainly not a Fascist. The Baron has certainly had more than his fair share of approbation. Once again guilt by association, he knows Filip de Winter and supports V.B. with his blogg and therefore must be a Fascist. I have just finished reading a book he gave me when we last met. The book is about slavery in the southern states of America, something he feel passionate about. The Baron is a decent patriotic American who believes passionately in Democracy and what it stands for. He certainly does not deserve the torrent of vituperation he has had to endure. None of these deserve the abuse they have received. I certainly do not agree with everything that these gentlemen have to say, on many points I am diametrically opposed, but I believe that they have a right to there views and should not be shouted down because if it offends the prejudices of certain people. Apart from the lack of death threats these attacks remind me very much of the way the left wing of the political spectrum and the Jihadist operate but I think that this is missed on most people.
