Sheva Brachot, 'Palestinian' style

As many of you know, at a Jewish wedding there are seven blessings known as 'Sheva Brachot' that are recited underneath the wedding canopy. The same seven blessings are recited at the festive meal that generally immediately (or almost immediately in certain communities) follows the wedding and generally at least once per day after that through the seventh day from the wedding. The 'Palestinians' don't say Sheva Brachot the way Jews do. Sometimes they don't even celebrate weddings the way Muslims do. Instead, they have their own unique way of doing things, which inevitably seems to involve gun fire. On Friday night, a group of 'Palestinians' who are affiliated with Hamas held a wedding in Beit Hanoun, a town whose name should sound familiar to many of you because it's a primary shooting ground for Kassam rockets. The shooting apparently got a little out of hand.

Palestinian officials and witnesses say Hamas militiamen detained at least 10 members of the rival Fatah movement after breaking up a wedding and beating guests.

The witnesses said the arrests occurred during overnight marriage celebrations in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanun.

Hamas authorities say the wedding guests were singing Fatah nationalist songs in support of Palestinian President and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas, and firing guns into the air.

Hospital workers said at least 10 people were hurt in the confrontation.

Witnesses said that after the incident, about 150 relatives of those arrested staged protests outside Hamas offices in the town. Most of the protesters were women and children.
