Jews who convert to Islam
I recall reading about this family in the JPost a couple of years ago. I have no idea in what 'settlement' they resided before they 'saw the light,' but clearly there is something very dark in the husband's head (at least). What's shocking about this video is not that a Jew converted to Islam and became a 'believer' but that someone who was born and raised a Jew bears such open and uncompromising hostility to all those who do not believe in Islam. If he weren't so cool, calculated and speaking in unaccented, clear English, I would think he was on drugs. Watch the video and see what you think.Hat Tip: Treppinwitz

Carl,
I always wondered about this guy, how authentic is he?
First of all, the only proof we see that he was jewish was one picture (of very poor quality) that could have been easily doctored.
Further, he doesnt really look jewish, although that doesnt really mean much.
But his description of 'knocking heads' against the wall?
and the way he pronounced 'Is-rah-eil' is the standard arabic pronounciation (and arab pronounciation of hebrew is one the main ways that Israeli security can differentiate between Jew and Arab)
He claims (http://www.angelfire.com/ak5/salafi/jewishconvertyousefalkhattab.htm) that he lived in Netivot, yet he went almost everyday to the Kosel? Thats a bit of a trip...Even when I was in the Mir, I wouldnt go that often....
Whaty what,
I know people in Mir who went to the Kotel every afternoon while they were there.
The tape says he lived in a 'West Bank settlement.' That would not be Netivot.
But I have seen this guy before and no one has questioned his authenticity. I do recall hearing something that his wife and children were not thrilled to convert.
Carl,
I realize that its possible to go to the Kosel everyday, Im just saying its a rather big hastle, even from the Mir, let alone any 'settlement' My point with Netivot is that in other places HE claims he lived there....
According to the biogrophy on his website, he was a secular Jew who became a Satmar at age 18, and then lived in Gush Katif. Many details of the story there seem to be different than in the video you linked. (Shocking, I know.)
He actually showed up to "debate" us on bloggie.
It is worth pointing out that he has
neo-Nazi propaganda on his website:

It is hardly surprising, Carl. Often it's the recent converts that are the most zealous about their faith. We in Serbia have a saying about those who during the Ottomans converted to islam:"The Turkified is worse then the proper Turk"
Also, remember that some of the worst antisemites were of Jewish origin, Otto Weininger for example.
Whaty what,
This story sounds so crazy, that I would have the same doubts as you. Would, except that Luna, Yousef's wife, was my high school classmate in Breuer's of Washington Heights. (graduating class of '91 if you feel like researching it.)
We her schoolmates are all heartbroken by this story. We are very sure that Luna is being held all these years against her will. We know very well that she would never have converted of her own free will. Already when they were living in New York there were clear signs of trouble in the marriage. We all continue to pray for her. However, Yousef has never allowed us contact with her since the move to East Jerusalem, saying she did not wish to speak with us, but not allowing her to the phone.
