Questions on the proposed Shalit exchange
At IsraelInsider, Michael Inbar asks
three questions regarding the proposed exchange of hundreds of 'Palestinian'
prisoners terrorists for kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. The first two questions are material that we have really gone over before, but I think the third question is one that ought to be asked and has not been:
3. Why hasn't Israel undertaken escalating punitive actions against the Arabs until they release Cpl Shalit? If he was alive they would not have harmed him since he is their only bargaining chip for any prisoner's exchange. Although Abu Mazen seems to have minimal say on these matters, certainly he is in better position to put direct pressure on the abductors than you. If you made it harder for Abu Mazen to face his own people by growing Israeli pressure it is more likely to achieve the release of Cpl. Shalit, if he is still alive.
Why not indeed?

Help a brother out - I'm having trouble understanding the reasoning behind the #3 argument. Could you please elaborate?
He's suggesting that Israel should be penalizing the 'Palestinians' for holding onto Shalit instead of rewarding them by releasing terrorists.
I thought he meant that Israel should punish the prisoners it holds; no Red Cross visits, no family visits, complete news blackout...
That would make sense to me.
