European 'monitors' ask IDF to plot escape from Hamas

The European 'monitors' at the border between Gaza and Egypt fear for their lives, and have asked the IDF to help plot their escape in the event that they are attacked by 'Palestinians.' The monitors are scheduled to sign an agreement this week that will extend their mandate for another year. According to the Jerusalem Post, Italian Chief of Staff Adm. Giampaolo Di Paola met with IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi and expressed grave concern for the safety of the monitors stationed at the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt.

According to the Post, three proposals were considered for how the monitors would escape in the event of an attack:

One proposal was for the monitors to run across the border to Egypt, although Israeli defense officials said they would still be defenseless since Palestinian gunmen could fire at them from across the border fence.

The second proposal was for the monitors to drive to the Erez Crossing with Israel, although such a move would require them to travel through the entire Gaza Strip.

The third proposal, which was accepted by the EU monitors, was to make a dash for the Gaza security fence that separates Israel from Gaza, where they would be rescued by the IDF.

Israel fears unlimited weapons smuggling in the event that there are no monitors at the border. As if that's not going on already. And for those of you who have forgotten what went on in Rafah four years ago, there's a picture of St. Pancake at the top of this post. She died trying to save a house that was being used for weapons smuggling.
