Blogger sued for comments made on her site
Google has been sued to disclose the identity of blogger Orthomom by a member of the Nassau County (New York) school board for comments made about the school board member on the blogger's site:FLOGGED ON BLOG, SHE'S SEEKING IDIt sounds like this lawsuit has no merit and will be thrown out easily. But going to court to protect oneself costs money. The blogosphere needs to support Orthomom. It could happen to any of us.
A LAWRENCE school board member fed up with anonymous kvetching about her on a blog is going to court to stop it from calling her a bigot and an anti-Semite.
Pamela Greenbaum, who serves on the Nassau town's board of education, filed papers against Google over nasty comments posted about her on the Orthomom blog.
In the papers filed Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court, Greenbaum said she was "horrified" to discover that she had been labeled a bigot on the Google-owned blog after voting against using public funds for what she called "private school interests."
"I was even more horrified when I discovered the blog reported over 300,000 visitors," Greenbaum said in court papers.
Greenbaum alleges that Orthomom - which focuses on issues of interest to Long Island's Orthodox Jewish communities - slandered her by calling her ugly and an anti-Semite.
Greenbaum, who is Jewish but not Orthodox, seeks to unmask the blogger known only as Orthomom.
"Every day that the defamatory material remains on the Internet for all to see, I continue to be harmed as more such material is posted,"she said in court papers.

If this woman can prove she isn't ugly, what of it? Now, if Orthomom said the woman married her brother maybe she would have a claim. But the religious Jews have a problem with the Jew-Hatin' Jews even more than they have a problem with the Jew-killin' Jew-Hatin' everybody else...kapo comes to mind. Judenrat is another word. These words should be employed more frequently, and the shamefaced antiZionists should be publicly called on their well-intentioned Jew-hatred.
I am also wonder where the line in the sand is in our western society? Look at the threats against Mark Steyn and now with Ann Coulter in Canada.
I'm also concerned about what is said in the blogs as well. How can you prosecute? when you are crossing borders with comments? I myself wrote some things about Obama on comments section I regret. In terms of anti-semitism, I personally doubt it, I just think he's an anti-american, internationalist, far-leftist who are, by definition, anti Israel.
But, can the justice department do anything on what somebody says? And, what constitutes a threat? even incitement? Look at the psycho that threatened to murder Cantor(and earlier Obama), and nobody took the killer of John Lennon seriously until afterwords. But there "incitement" was they were nuts.
So, there is a slippery slope with this hole issue of rights, accusing people of hatred, ect...
I have also myself, in public on numerous web sites, and in private accused Andrew Sullivan of anti-semitism. Here, on sober reflection, I was right all along=) I've had unpleasant email exchanges with him and his focus on Israel was and is recently off the charts as in Israel is the focus of all the evil in the world.
But, sigh. These law suits give pause to free speech. Must we censor our feelings? to avoid hurting folks feelings? There is a UN sponsered debate that would seek to prosecute religious incitement against Islam and religion. So the hole thing appears to be a slippery slope; meanwhile the terrorists pick their next subway to blow up(no legal worries on their front!)
