Syrian threats

Syria is threatening to close its border with Lebanon in the event that an international tribunal is established to try suspects in political assassinations in Lebanon according to a report in the Jerusalem Post. This might actually be a good thing if it means that the supply of weapons to Hezbullah is cut off, although it's more likely that would be an instance of shutting the barn door after the horses have all escaped.

The Syrians have also threatened to stop monitoring their border with Iraq in the event that the international tribunal is established. Given how (in)effective that monitoring has been, I don't think that's much of a threat to the international community.
