Where's the Red Cross?

Reader Dave in Pa. writes:
I have a few tangential general thoughts related to the specific issue of the kidnapped soldiers.

The case of the kidnapped soldiers is an integral part of a problem that democracies have, especially Israel and the United States. Historically we generally have done and do today an abysmal job of propaganda. The old saying that "truth is a perception" is proverbial because of it's accuracy.

In just one aspect of that, the Israeli government should be doing as much as possible to hold the proverbial fire to the feet of the ICRC. Why isn't the ICRC, International Committee of the Red Cross, making waves about not being allowed to see the Israeli prisoners?

Along with diplomacy, this should be but one of the non-stop public themes, via governmental officials' speeches, writings and broadcasts in Israeli media. AND via outreach to the West's MSM plus numerous heavily visited major pro-Israel blogs. (I could list perhaps a hundred non-left-wing major blogs just in the Anglosphere that among them, with their major participatory audience, can and do effect both the MSM and Government.)

Some of these media efforts will work and have a good effect; some won't. But with no effort, none will work or have an effect.

As I said above, the case of the three kidnapped soldiers is intertwined with the Global War on (strike the word Terror and insert)Islamofascism. The Islamofascists realize the centrality of the propaganda war and their propaganda is arguably what they do best.

Western Civilization cannot cede the propaganda front to Civilization's enemies as it is pretty much doing today.
Interesting and true thoughts.

Regarding the specific issue of the ICRC, it's interesting that I don't recall the Israeli government demanding that the 'Palestinian' Red Crescent go see Gilad Shalit. They did demand that the Lebanese Red Cross go see Goldwasser and Regev, but nothing ever came of it, and as you note, Israel has not spent a lot of time publicizing its efforts vis-a-vis the Red Cross.

That the Red Cross has not helped Israel is not surprising. After all, they helped Hezbullah, allowed their workers to serve as props in Qana, and played along with a hoax that Israel bombed one of their ambulances. But why do Israel's public relations continue to be so poor? Why doesn't the Israeli government continue to pound these points home?

i love the international red cross! such nice people!

It only took 40 years for them to approval an israeli outfit suitable to fit thier ranks. But only after the star of david was changed into a "crystal".

But a bigger message is here... for years the arabs stated that jew-blood is no more valuable than arab-blood... and yet, 800 arabs for one israeli? this tells us that it is correct to assume this equation!

so:

if one rocket is fired by palestinians (or hezbollah) 800 should be shot back

if one israel is stabbed, then israel should stabb 800 of them

if one israel is kidnapped, 800 should be arrested

if one israel is killed, 800 should be killed.

ok, now that the equation is set..

Arabs will train their own children to commit suicide. If they believe their own children have so little value alive, why should it be surprising that they believe an Arab is worth 1/800 the value of a Jew?
