'Palestinians' to concentrate terror attacks in 'East Jerusalem'?
It's been widely reported here in Israel tonight that Hamas and Fatah had 'positive' meetings over the weekend, and are close to reaching a deal in which the 'Prisoners' Document' will be accepted and the 'Palestinians' will concentrate their terror in Judea and Samaria. That ought to please the North Tel Aviv leftists: it's NotInMyBackYard.But unfortunately, it is in mine - and not just because it involves Judea and Samaria. This quote was high enough up in the Jerusalem Post that someone should have noticed it:
The document, drafted by members of rival Palestinian groups in Israeli jails, proposes a PA unity government and focusing on attacks in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.And note what the 'sticking points' still are:
Sticking points were Hamas recognition of Israel and support of a two-state solution, chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said. The Hamas charter calls for the destruction of Israel.Not only that, but any 'agreement' reached by the PLO as negotiator with Israel would be subject to a referendum that would include "all Palestinians, including those living outside the PA."
But fear not fellow Israelis, because it ain't over 'til it's over, and according to Channel 2, it ain't over yet:
However, Channel 2 reported, Fatah demanded that the Hamas government disband immediately upon signing the agreement.
Erekat said he was not optimistic the two would come to a swift agreement. "I wouldn't jump to conclusions. The two sides are still debating," he said.
"I think we are very, very close to achieving a big compromise and a final agreement, but I think we need a little time and a little patience," said Ghazi Hamad, a spokesman for the Hamas-led PA government.
And for those who think that an 'agreement' between Hamas and Fatah would mean that Kassams stop raining on Sderot - that's unlikely too. Islamic Jihad says that they have no intention of joining the Hamas-Fatah agreement, saying they did not want to "set any limits" to their fight against Israel.
So will there be an agreement or won't there be an agreement? Only time will tell.
