Iran Will Destroy Israel, Unless We Act

It seems obvious to me that if we get nuked R"L we will at least respond. The question at this end is whether our new leftist government will have the guts to initiate a first strike if no one else will act. I wish I could be confident that God will protect us from this menace (He certainly can!) but I'm not sure we as a people deserve that kind of miracle today.
The fanatical president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has once again threatened to destroy Israel. As reported by AP, Ahmadinejad today told an audience at a pro-Palestinian conference that Israel is a “permanent threat” to the Middle East and that “the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation.”

These threats must be taken seriously.

This is not calculated boasting, along the lines of Nikita Khrushchev’s infamous “we will bury you” remark. This is the sincere expression of the radical Islamic belief that Jews must be killed. Israel just happens to be the most obvious and convenient target on which to carry out this directive. Let’s not forget, however, that Islamic terrorists have killed Jews throughout the world.

It should be obvious by now that there will be no negotiating with Ahmadinejad and the mullahs who rule Iran. They see the very existence of Israel as anathema to their way of life. As Ahmadinejad stated: Israel’s “existence has harmed the dignity of Islamic nations.”

Ahmadinejad, in effect, has declared a blood feud against the nation of Israel that will not end until he, or Israel, is eliminated.

The concept of peaceful co-existence between Israel and Islam—or even a precarious but non-existential cold war, as lasted for decades between the United States and the USSR—is completely contrary to Ahmadinejad’s belief system. He is determined to destroy Israel.

And unless the Iranian regime and its nuclear weapons program is destroyed first, he will succeed. It is only a matter of time (perhaps 3-5 years) before Iran has 4 or 5 nuclear bombs with which to carry out its threats. That’s all that would be required to “annihilate” a tiny country like Israel (along with dozens of my own relatives).

Why should we, as Americans, care if Israel is wiped out? Besides the obvious humanitarian, democratic, and civilizational motives we have for supporting Israel—not to mention the clear danger that Iran will provide nuclear bombs to terrorists who will use them against American targets—the bottom line is that Israel will not let itself be nuked into oblivion without striking back with nuclear weapons of its own. Then the entire Middle East will become a nuclear war zone, with the dire potential for further military escalation, along with severe disruptions of the world’s economic and political systems. In short, no good can come of Iran having nuclear weapons.
Read the whole thing.
