Whether or not Abu Mazen and his creeps get to hold elections in 'East Jerusalem' isn't the point. The point isn't even why the United States is making commitments to this Arafat wannabee who hasn't lifted a finger to stop terrorism. The point is that the United States is ignoring Israeli sovereignty by making commitments to Abu Mazen that it then expects Israel to fulfill. Honestly, I don't believe this is George Bush speaking. I believe it's the US State Department, which has a long history of anti-Israel activity, that is doing this.
... PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas told reporters that the United States has given assurances that the Palestinian elections would be able to take place in east Jerusalem, though he protested what he said was a changing policy on the part of Israel.
... The PA chairman revealed that "today, for the first time, I received an assurance from the Americans, saying that the elections could take place in east Jerusalem."However, he added that "up to now we haven't heard any assurances from the Israelis over this issue."
... Answering a question on Israel's position over the elections in east Jerusalem, Abbas said: "I said that the Americans promised and gave guarantees... which we trust. Regarding the Israeli position, we have started to operate in Jerusalem in accordance with Israeli law. We need to create precedents and work according to them."
I don't know what this means. Under 'Israeli law,' any activity by the PLO or the PA in Jerusalem is illegal. Not only that, but under the Oslo Accords, the PA is forbidden to carry out any activities in Jerusalem (which is why Orient House was shut down four and a half years ago) , although in the past, the Israeli government made the unfortunate mistake of allowing 'Jerusalem Palestinians' - who have no interest in living in a 'Palestinian
And then there's 'peace' Palestinian style:
Abbas added: “The hudna (ceasefire with Israel) must continue in 2006; it is a gift we are giving to our people.”
Abbas also condemned the recent Qassam rocket fire towards Israel, saying, “I want one person to tell me what good these rockets bring; they fall in our territory and cause Israel to respond and kill our people.”
Of course, there's nothing morally wrong with them - the only problem is that they cause Israel to respond and 'kill our people.'
