The public's right to know

There has been a fair amount of discussion as to whether the cabinet should meet for a 'report' in the event that (as is currently the case) there is no deal to free Gilad Shalit and if so, what should be discussed at that meeting. The controversy centers around the list of prisoners terrorists whose release Hamas has demanded.

A couple of days ago, the media admitted that the reason the list would not be disclosed to the cabinet was out of fear that it would leak out and that the public would be outraged. Yesterday, someone in the Leftist-controlled media realized that it was not a great idea to say that, and they started saying that releasing the list would encourage Hamas to raise the ante. The first explanation was likely the correct one.

Typically, the list of terrorists being released is placed on the prison service's web site and then the public has 48 hours to appeal. I cannot recall an appeal that succeeded. When one of the last terrorist releases took place, I actually tried to find the list on the prison service's web site. I was not able to do so. I guess they don't want ordinary Israelis to be able to bog down the process with appeals.

Disgraceful, isn't it?

What's truly disgraceful is Israel's Leftist media has not aired all the sides of a terrorists-for-Shalit exchange deal. The public has been deprived of the information necessary to judge whether it would advance Israel's national interests. That means the fate of one person cannot be allowed to supersede those overriding national interests. Which at the moment may be a moot point since Hamas has decided to ratchet up its blackmail of the Israeli government and the price may well be too high for even Ehud Olmert to considering paying but what I just said is still an important point to be attended to and the public does have a right to know the details behind any trade deal that may be made in the future.

Israel should make a public deal.

One Israeli soldier for ONE hamas soldier...

Period....

In the mean time every Arab attack on Israel should be responded to with disproportionate response...

ONE for ONE...
