Breaking: IED explodes on Gaza border fence near Kissufim crossing; UPDATED - IDF soldier killed, 3 wounded; UPDATE: Video added

An IDF patrol along the Gaza border fence near the Kissufim crossing (see map) was apparently attacked with an IED. There were no injuries. Israel Radio reports that the IDF responded with tank and artillery fire and a 'Palestinian' farmer was killed. Here's more from the JPost.
Palestinians reported that an exchange of fire erupted between troops and Gaza gunmen following the incident near the Kissufim crossing.

...

It marks the first clash between troops and Gaza gunmen since the IDF completed its withdrawal from Gaza on Wednesday.

However, it wasn't the first time Palestinians had launched attacks from the Strip since Operation Cast Lead ended over a week ago with Israel's unilateral cease-fire last Saturday followed by a truce declared by Hamas the following day.

Last Tuesday, Palestinian gunmen opened fire on IDF soldiers in two separate incidents near the Gaza border, and eight mortar shells were also fired at southern Israel. No one was wounded and no damage was reported in the attacks.
Anyone want to take bets on how much longer this 'cease fire' lasts.

UPDATE 12:01 PM

Israel Radio is reporting that the 'Palestinians' claim they fired RPG's (rocket propelled grenades) at IDF troops.

UPDATE 1:00 PM

Israel Radio is reporting that one soldier was killed and three were wounded - one seriously in this morning's incident, which was an IED.

UPDATE 6:09 PM

Here's the arrival of the seriously wounded soldier at Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva along with an interview (sorry, Hebrew only) with the director of the hospital who says that this soldier was the only one to arrive by helicopter and that he was taken straight to surgery.

Let's go to the videotape.

Carl: The AL BEEB says an Israeli soldier was killed but you cite there were only IDF injuries and a Palestinian farmer was killed. The terrorists are perfectly willing to kill not just Jews but Arab civilians to wage their jihad against Israel.

And these are the people whom the world expects Israel to open the Gaza borders to.

Hopenchange, indeed!

The firing of RPGs and the attack on Israeli forces on Israel's side side of the border is a breach even by Hamas' own interpretation of the ceasefire. Then again its permitted to lie to the infidels, especially to the Jews.

Things are returning to "normal" fast.

there has never been a cease fire. israel is still bombing gaza with its navy. the genocide has stopped, thats all. israeli cease fire agreements aren't worth the paper its written on. everyone blames hamas for launching rockets into israel during the ceasefire which started this war, but it was israel who really broke the agreement by killing six hamas leaders. before that hamas was not launching rockets and even condemned those who did such as islamic jihad. hamas responded to the murder of six of its members by launching rockets.but it was israel who broke the agreement first.

sassinfras, you're the embodiment of sinat hinam! You hold more malice towards your fellow Jews than you for those who would destroy them. That is evil! The Jewish people want peace but unfortunately, that is not a sentiment reciprocated by the other side. The IDF tracker who was killed Tuesday was a Bedouin Muslim and you don't even shed tears for him! Hamas wants to kill Jews but they murder indiscriminately. Every human life is precious no matter who the person happens to be. You defend the people who love death and destruction and you hate the people who love life and G-d. You make my skin crawl. Take your pro-Hamas garbage somewhere else!

Sassinfras,

Hamas can't hide behind Islamic Jihad. Israel really doesn't care which uniform the terrorists are wearing when they fire at us.
