French Presidential candidate 'understands' need for Israeli overflights of Lebanon

I guess no one has told French Socialist Presidential candidate Segolene Royal about the Arab vote yet. Or maybe she figures that the Arabs have no place to go anyway, since her rival, Nicolas Sarkozy, has been behind the police war against the French intifada. In any event, YNet has some good news tonight coming out of Royal's camp. In response to a question by YNet, Royal said tonight that she "understands the Israeli security needs and some flights are justified." Regarding the route of the 'security fence,' Royal said that when there are security concerns, certain things can be justified. However, she said, it is also best for the route to be determined by both parties.

I'm beginning to like this woman....

Her position on this issue came as a surprise to me, considering that several weeks ago French forces almost fired on Israeli aircraft that were buzzing their position in southern Lebanon. She definitely has a lot of the Muslim vote in France, but Sarkozy is seen as having most of the Jewish votes. With her tough stance on Iran and this softening on Israel, however, she might be able to take some of those votes too. No wonder Sarkozy attacked her almost out of proportion when she appeared to agree with a Hezbollah lawmaker who compared Israeli actions to those of the Nazis.

Boz,

She also attacked that Hezbullah lawmaker. It was in all the papers here.
