Israel detains Hamas minister in E. Jerusalem

Israel's Shin Bet General Security Service has detained Hamas 'minister for Jerusalem Affairs' Khaled abu Arfa while on his way to Azzariyeh near 'East Jerusalem', where he was planning to inaugurate a new office for being there without a permit.
Jeeps with Border Policemen inside appeared to have been waiting for Abu Arafa, the officials said, and stopped his car as it headed toward Azzariyeh.

Security sources confirmed the arrest, saying abu Arfa was detained because he was trying to enter the Palestinian territories with an Israeli ID card, which he hold as an East Jerusalem resident.

This is the first time Israel has arrested a minister since the cabinet was sworn in last week.

Update 7:25 PM: Abu Arafa has been released.
