Tomorrow morning, God willing, for the thirty-something consecutive year (I'd rather not say precisely how many), I am making a celebration for completing a tractate of Talmud on the eve of Pesach. I am a firstborn son, and on the eve of Passover, all firstborn sons must fast unless they participate in a seduath mitzva (a meal that is itself a mitzva). Traditionally, this is accomplished by completing a tractate of Talmud, and tomorrow morning, I get to do it again, God willing. One of my sons will God willing also finish a tractate....
At the end of the siyum (which is that it's called in Hebrew), we say the Hadran - We will return to you, because one never truly finishes learning any tractate of Talmud. Each tractate is deep and has much more to glean from it.

It's been about 16 months since we last finished the Babylonian Talmud, and for those who are still with us studying one folio per day, this is still a long way off (it takes seven years and five months to finish and the hard tractates are still ahead). But here's something to think about for the next siyum (ending).

Okay, doing the overnight music video at 4:00 in the afternoon - and scheduling it for 6:00 - is really weird. But 6:00 pm Pacific is 3:00 am in Israel. I called Mrs. Carl before going to my 2:00 pm meeting, had to interrupt for the meeting... and when I came out she was asleep....
Anyway, for those who didn't figure it out yet, I am in Las Vegas. It's the first time I have ever been here. I have business meetings here Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday morning breakfast (and I had a business meeting Tuesday afternoon as noted), but if anyone has suggestions what to do with the rest of my time... :-) (And if you live in Las Vegas, yes, I was in shul this morning - I even had an aliya).
