The University of Haifa has reacted to the scandal over its decision not to grant an honorary degree to Nobel Prize winner Professor Yisrael Aumann.

Pigs fly: Supreme Court orders uber-Leftist AG to disclose why he didn't prosecute Mavi Marmara MK
This is a flying pigs moment.
The Supreme Court has ordered uber-Leftist Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein (the same guy who refused to defend the government's position on Migron last week) to disclose to the court why he
decided not to prosecute MK Hanin Zoabi (Balad) and Islamic Movement leader Raed Sallah for their participation in the Mavi Marmara attempted terrorist attack in May 2010.
The decision was made following Monday’s hearing on a petition filed by MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union), activist Itamar Ben-Gvir and the Movement for Our Land of Israel.
The petition had demanded a full accounting of the state’s decision to close the case against Zoabi and Salah as a first step toward compelling the state to file the case.
The petitioners hoped that once a fuller version of the state’s reasons for closing the case was put forward that they would be able to point out defects in the decision.
Previously, the state had only released a brief press release regarding the decision to close the case with no significant detailed explanation as to why.
However, there was nothing remarkable in and of itself about the fact that the press release was short on details.
In the separation of powers scheme between the executive and judicial branches, the court mostly defers to the state prosecutor when it comes to closing cases, reasoning that as the official body which litigates criminal cases for the state, its professional judgment about how good a case it has should not be second-guessed.
Most cases which are closed do not even have a press release, let alone a public explanation in detail of the reasons the case was considered weak by the state.
The fact that the courts do not normally interfere with the state’s decisions to close cases makes the court’s decision all the more surprising.
Further, the court wrote an extremely short two page opinion, citing no legal precedents for its decision, also an unusual step.
That said, putting matters in perspective, even as the petitioners have won an initial victory in that the state must produce a more detailed explanation within 30 days, their battle is far from won.
The article goes on to discount the possibility that Ben Ari and Gvir might actually win (and that might just be media bias), but for now at least, we can celebrate.

State of Israel funded commendations for Mavi Marmara passengers
In his annual report, State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss says that the State of Israel financed commendations to six Israeli Arab passengers on the Mavi Marmara terror ship in 2010. The commendations, which cost a total of NIS 5,000 ($1380), were presented by the Israeli Arab Ta'al party, and were
purchased with moneys received from the State of Israel.
A week after the flotilla, United Arab List-Ta'al Chairman MK Ibrahim Sarsur granted six commemorative plaques worth a total of NIS 5,000 ($1,380) to MK Hanin Zoabi (Balad), Islamic Movement leader Sheikh Ra'ad Salah and others.

According to the report, which examined the state's political party funding, the faction paid NIS 5,000 to buy the brass plaques, for the activists who took part in the flotilla on which IDF soldiers were brutally attacked and nine Turks were killed.
They listed the plaques as an expense aimed at keeping in touch with the party's supporters, as they were given out to well known people who represent an extensive section of the Arab Israeli sector.
The Comptroller noted in the report that the funds should never have been used to purchase the plaques and that their purchase could not be included in the "keeping in touch with the voters" clause as they were given as personal gifts directly to a small number of people. He added that their purchase from the public was illegitimate.
This is a case in which not only were public funds misappropriated, they were also uses to honor a group of people who took part in a flotilla against Israel.

MK Sarsur said he was summoned to the State Comptroller's office where he was told that he used the funds contrary to state procedure. "I told them that there was no clause forbidding what we did," the MK told Ynet.
He added that "the flotilla participants took steps in line with social and political activity and their stance is justified, a kind of defense of values." Sarsur stressed that he did not regret his actions.
As long as Israel's Arab community continues to elect the likes of Sarsur and Hanin Zoabi as its representatives to the Knesset, Israeli Jews will continue to be suspicious about which side Israel's Arab take and whether they'd rather live with the 'Palestinians.'

Time for Israel to ban Sheikh Raed Sallah
Writing in Haaretz, former Defense Minister and Ambassador to the United States Moshe Arens says that Israel
has not taken sufficient action against Raed Sallah and his Islamist movement.
Sheikh Ra'ad Salah was arrested in London for illegal entry into the United Kingdom. There he has been labeled by the British media as a "preacher of hate" and a "virulent anti-Semite." The sheikh is well known in Israel and Israelis can vouch for the veracity of these appellations. However Salah's attorney in London has stated quite correctly that the Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement that Salah heads "is a legitimate organization which Israel has never moved to ban."
Who can explain the blatant inconsistency between Salah's scandalous and treacherous behavior and the subversive nature of the Islamic movement he leads and their continued unhindered activity in Israel?
A reminder of who it is we are dealing with can be found in the conclusions of the Orr Commission that investigated the events of October 2000. According to the final report, Salah was guilty of "transmission of messages that negated the legitimacy of the existence of the State of Israel and presenting the state as an enemy ... he had a substantial contribution to provoking tempers and the violent and widespread outburst that took place in the Arab sector at the beginning of October 2000."
Read the whole thing. He makes a pretty good case for the proposition that Sallah is endangering the state's security.

British Labor MP compares Livni to Raed Sallah
Nice country you got there in Britain. I wouldn't want to see anything bad happen to it. But if you keep electing moronic MP's who compare wimpy, peace-mongering Israeli 'opposition leaders' to Islamic terrorists, you don't stand much chance of surviving to the next century. Take
British MP Ann Clwyd (Labor) for instance. Please, take her, away....
Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Clwyd said, “I find it particularly ironic that we are prepared to change the law to protect one Israeli opposition leader when another opposition leader, the Palestinian Sheikh Salah, comes here and is put straight in jail. Where is the justice in that?”
Clwyd, a member of the Labor Party, was referring to a proposed bill making its way through the UK parliament which would make it harder for private parties to obtain arrest warrants citing the principle of universal jurisdiction.
In December 2009, an arrest warrant was issued against Livni on allegations of war crimes.
Salah was convicted in 2005 of, among other offenses, aiding terrorist organizations, and served two years in prison for the felony.
Speaking to The Jerusalem Post, Clwyd refused to distance herself from the comment.
“I don’t know Raed Salah,” she said. “All I know is that he came to the UK to discuss Palestine and to promote peace and justice for Palestinians, and all of a sudden he was arrested.”
Asked whether someone convicted of aiding terrorist organizations should be excluded from the UK, Clwyd said “it’s not for me to judge.”
Is that what 'opposition leaders' do in Britain too - foment rebellion and attempt to turn the country into a Muslim Caliphate? Useful idiot.

escape from Britain this past weekend. (By the way, Israel Radio just reported that Peretz escaped by taking the train to Paris). It turns out he's not the only 'dovish' Israeli who was nearly arrested this weekend. This is from the first link again.
Dovish Maj.-Gen. (res) Danny Rothschild was forced to cut short his trip to the UK following reports from the Israeli embassy in London that pro-Palestinian groups were planning to petition the county court for his arrest.
Rothschild coordinated IDF operations in the Palestinian territories in the early 1990s, during the first intifada. The attempted arrest of Rothschild allegedly came in response to Salah’s arrest last week, Army Radio said.
If these people could, they would exhume Moshe Dayan from the grave and arrest him too - after all, he was Defense Minister in 1967 and 1973, so he must have committed some
war crimes too, right?

Jihad Jenny theatens to quit over Sallah arrest

Jenny Tonge has threatened to quit her party (which is part of the coalition) over the
arrest of Islamic Movement Northern Front leader Raed Sallah in London on Monday. Anyone want to bet on what the
reaction to her resignation would be?
At a meeting in a House of Commons Committee Room last night where I was present, “Jihad” Jenny Tonge spoke about “the power of the Israel Lobby”. Her remarks were in connection with the Home Secretary’s decision to arrest and deport Sheikh Raeed Salah (who had been billed to address the meeting). She declared herself “ashamed” at the action of a government of which the LibDems (her Party) are a member and said “I am carefully considering my position in my Party”.
Go on Jihad Jenny – I’ll lay odds that if you resign the words “Good Riddance” will be on Nick Clegg’s lips. I doubt he has forgotten your antisemitic comments in 2006: "The pro-Israeli lobby has got its grips on the western world, its financial grips. I think they've probably got a grip on our party."
Most of the speakers at the meeting agreed that the banning of Salah was down to the all-powerful “Israel Lobby”.

Raed Sallah arrested in London
Raed Sallah, the head of Israel's Islamic Movement Northern Front, has been
arrested in London and charged with being in the UK illegally.
The Islamic Movement on Wednesday reacted to news of the arrest of its northern branch leader Sheikh Raed Salah in London overnight, blaming the "Jewish lobby" for the arrest in order to protect the "Zionist narrative."
"Since Salah received the invitation to come to Britain, the Jewish lobby went crazy and did everything in its power to prevent the visit, so that the Zionist narrative remains the only narrative," the movement said in a statement.
In a direct message to "the Jewish lobby," the Islamic Movement continued, "We will protect our rights and will bring the voice of truth to the world, especially as it relates to the Palestinian people. We won't be affected by this political arrest."
Anyone who knows the true situation in England has to realize how comical this hysterical reaction (and three others cited from 'Israeli Arab' MK's) is. Israeli government officials and IDF officers have been threatened with arrest in London due to demands by private parties and without charges. And Sallah is about as incendiary as they come.
According to the Islamic Movement, Salah was arrested close to midnight overnight Tuesday in London after returning from a lecture in Leicester. He was reportedly scheduled to speak to the British Parliament later in the visit, an appearance scheduled at the invitation of an MP.
Lawyers said that Salah was faced with two options: to stand trial, or face immediate deportation, Channel 10 reported.
Israel Radio reports that the UK has opened proceedings to expel Sallah from Britain and is investigating how he got into the country in the first place. He was banned due to anti-Semitic statements. Heh.
