German newspaper firebombed for running Charlie Hebdo cartoons

The German newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost was firebombed overnight for running Charlie Hebdo cartoons (Hat Tip: Memeorandum).

With security services on high alert after a killing spree in Paris by Islamic extremists, police in the northern German port city of Hamburg said no one was injured in the blaze at the headquarters of the regional daily Hamburger Morgenpost, which caused only slight damage.

"Rocks and then a burning object were thrown through the window," a police spokesman told AFP.

"Two rooms on lower floors were damaged but the fire was put out quickly."

The Hamburger Morgenpost, known locally as the MOPO, had splashed the Charlie Hebdo cartoons on its front page after the massacre at the Paris publication, running the headline "This much freedom must be possible!"

So is the world standing up to radical Islam in Paris today? Not really. Today's march is all about shows and symbolism. Really standing up would require acknowledging that for many Muslims, Islam is nothing but a cult that justifies murder.

And for those who have forgotten, three of the 9/11 hijackers, including leader Mohamed Atta, came from Hamburg.

Ahmadinejad bites the hand that feeds him

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad doesn't have too many friends in this world, and he may have just blown a friendship today. Angela Merkel's Germany has probably done more to facilitate Iranian trade than any other country in the West. On Tuesday, Merkel was supposed to overfly Iran on her way to India, but at the last minute, permission for the overflight was withdrawn and Merkel's plane had to circle Turkey for two hours until it was restored. Ahmadinejad claims the flight was barred due to a 'technical glitch.' Hmmm.

This might be the time to call Merkel about shutting down EIH Bank in Hamburg.
