Gazans denying shark reports

If it wasn't the Nine Days, I would open this one with the theme from the movie Jaws. Hamas is denying the presence of sharks off the Gaza coast.
Gaza official Mahmoud Kabarati on Tuesday denied media reports that sharks had been spotted on the Gaza Strip's coastline.

According to reports in the Israeli media on Tuesday, sharks had ventured near the Gaza shore because of environmental changes in the Mediterranean.

The sharks were attracted by the depth of the water off Gaza's coast and by the large number of fishing boats, the reports said.

Kabarati, who heads Gaza's federation of fishermen and water sports, said the claims were false.

"It is known at an international level that water off the coast is deeper in the south which means it is shallower in the Gaza Strip's coasts," he said.

He added that Israel restricted fishing boats to three nautical miles from the coastline, and that Gaza fishermen barely caught any fish.
Those Shayetet 13 guys are so clever. Heh.

Surprise: 'Palestinians' agreed that no foreign ships would be allowed within 12 miles of Gaza

Forget for a minute that the United Nations is about to issue the Palmer Commission report that finds that the Israeli blockade of Gaza is legal. The 'Palestinians' themselves AGREED as part of the Oslo accords that no foreign ship would be allowed within 12 nautical miles of the Gaza coast!
Pursuant to the Oslo Accords negotiated and signed between Israel and the PLO, the Palestinians agreed that the Gaza coastline would be placed under Israeli control and that no foreign ships would be allowed closer than 12 nautical miles from the shore. Israel demanded this out of concern over widespread import of conventional and unconventional weapons into Gaza. Had it not been for this provision, there would be no Palestinian Authority today, and Israel would not have withdrawn from Gaza.

Because of this agreement, the Gaza maritime blockade is consistent with international law, and violating it constitutes a hostile action against the State of Israel. As such, Israel is permitted to utilize all necessary force to repel any seafaring intruders.

The UN’s soon-to-be-released Palmer Report, which investigated last year’s flotilla, will confirm that this is true.
Read the whole thing.

Are the 'Palestinians' trying to claim ta'inu (we made a mistake)? It's a little too late for that.
