I'll bet they are worried....
In 1976, after Israel’s daring hostage rescue
operation at Entebbe, Chaim Herzog cracked up the Security Council when
he pointed out the blatant hypocrisy of the Soviet Union accusing Israel
of violating another country’s sovereignty. “On these subjects, I defer
to [them], having regard to the Soviet Union’s very considerable record
in these respects in Hungary, in Czechoslovakia, and in other countries
in Eastern Europe,” he said, eliciting laughter from the assembled
delegates.
For reasons explained here, current Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor may have a similar reaction to Russia's claim to be 'deeply worried' by the alleged Israeli strike on Syrian military facilities.
"Moscow is deeply worried by this dangerous development, the
circumstances of which demand an explanation," Russian foreign ministry
spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.
In a letter to the United
Nations, Russia complained about Israel's "aggressive action" and
demanded that such attacks should not happen again, the spokesman said.
Syria also complained to the UN about the strikes, demanding that the
Security Council "severely condemn the Israeli attack and impose
punitive sanctions on Israel due to its support of Syrian terrorist
organizations."
'Deeply worried'? Well, Cry Me a River, Vlad.
But there's another gem in this Haaretz article: It seems that the airport was not the only target hit last night.
The Lebanese official, who requested anonymity because he was not
authorized to speak to the media, said a Hezbollah convoy heading to
Lebanon had been hit in another set of strikes at Dimas, approximately
half-way between Damascus and the Lebanese border.
The strikes
hit an air base at Dimas where advanced Iranian drones were stationed
along with Syrian troops and Hezbollah forces, the Syrian official said.
There have been several reported observations of Iranian drones during the Syrian conflict.
Yeah, the Russians are 'deeply worried,' alright. Their clients just took one on the chin. Heh.

Europeans cruise to occupied territory
Eugene Kontorovich reports that those ever consistent Europeans are ignoring their governments' warnings not to travel to occupied territory. In fact, they're
buying real estate there.
Apparently Europeans do no take their governments’ warnings about doing business in occupied territories too seriously. A German-owned, Portuguese-flagged, Greek-based cruise ship, the Ocean Majesty, paid a port call to Yalta this week, in Russian-occupied Crimea. The 500 mostly German tourists had a nice day of sightseeing, to the outrage of Ukraine, which has passed a law banning such activities.
(The incident seems to be part of a pattern of German businesses being visibly active in Crimea.)
But as I show in my new paper, Economic Dealings With Occupied Territories
(currently making the rounds among law review), international law does
not ban economic activity with illegally annexed or administered
territories. European government suggestions that “economic activities (including services like tourism) entail [international] legal and economic risks”
are not backed by actual law, and the German cruise operators know it.
Alternately, they may know that if it is thought to be illegal, it is
only in one specific context.

Update about the anti semitic leaflets in Donetsk
In an earlier post, I reported on the Jews of Donetsk, which has been declared an 'independent republic' within the Ukraine, being forced to '
register' themselves and their property or to face forfeiture on May 3. I now have more details about those leaflets, which I received via email.
On April 15, 3 people in black balaclavas, gave away leaflets (the one i
sent you before) to passersby and glued some on billboards near the
Synagogue.

Hmmm. I used to be in touch with Rabbi Yitzchak and Leah Lipszyc (that's how it's spelled on LinkedIn and that's how I recall them spelling it) through a couple of mailing lists many years ago. When my daughter and I went to Ukraine in September, I tried to contact them via Facebook, but did not hear back from them.
But I've also heard that Chabad has been backing the Russians (that's what's been reported here in Israel) so I have asked for an explanation. I will post about this again when I hear back.

It starts: Jews in Donetsk forced to 'register'

They say that this papers were given to people near Synagouge in
Donetsk (Which is right now self proclaimed "republic")
Basically its a call to Jews to come and register their religion and
property at the citie's offices, (for a 50USD cash payment).
It says because the Ukrainian Jewish leadership supports the
"Bandera's Junta" and hostile towards Pravoslav Republic of Donetsk
and its people (The key word here is 'Pravoslav', its Russian
Christian orthodoxy), everyone who lives on territory of Donetsk and
older then 16 years old, should register before May 3 (there is
address in there its city hall or town hall, i have no idea what
some short abbreviation words mean, it says
'Donetsk ODA building'' i think its like regional government
building or something).
you must bring papers for property that you own, business, cars,
houses and the such.
If you fail to register before may 3, you will be deported and your
property confiscated
P.S. I believe that its real, the situation in Ukraine is
complicated and the way its reported in Israel is one sided and
fake, Russia has lots of influence here and Ukraine not (also we
Jews are easily manipulated, if you remind the Holocaust then we
turn blind and belie everything we hears if someone is named a Nazi
and Jew hater), so Ukraine is painted like some Nazi gitler gestapo
banana republic with Nazi zombies killing people and Russia like
some savior, which in reality is the other way around.
As a matter of fact the Jewish leadership support the revolution and
the people, they said what happened in the past (some light racist
remarks by some leaders of the right wing parties) stay in the past.
Also here is some example that I'm sure you never heard of, 2 days
after Russian "green men" entered and spread over Crimea a Synagogue
was painted with graffiti (no issues before that), when Crimea
"voted" to join Russia the chief rabbi of Crimea and his family
moved to Kiev and said that if the situation stays as it is he will
never go back.
The leadership of the Right sector tries to stop anti semitic
remarks by the lower ranks (if they happen) and people are thrown out
of the party if they did something like saying 'HH' or antisemitic
remarks.
They organized some cleaning duty to help remove graffiti from
Synagogue and so on.
The new Russian leader of the Crimea is ACTUAL Nazi, and i mean as
in real unlike the right sector which is no different then our
rightist parties.
So he was in Slyvyanski Sojuz (Slavic Union) which after collapse of
the USSR was a BIG Nazi (they changed the symbol to some Slavic
symbol and the ideology was on Slavic superiority, otherwise no
different from Nazi and same hand gesture and same mentality that we
own everything and steal everything and poor Slavic people work for
the "Jid" (Jid means kike a curse name for Jews in Russian, sadly
its how you say Jew in Polish and i think Ukrainian too as in real
word not curse) party in Russia, they had uniforms, they marched
with weapons, organized camps summer for teenagers. (If you
interested in researching it further and writing and article how
Crimea is ruled by "ex-Slavic Union" Nazi i can provide photographic
evidence of him in uniform and other people. )
I will update as I can. As many of you will recall, I was in Kiev a few months ago. Wish I had taken the phone number of the guy who lives here who travels back and forth.
