Why a disproportionate response?
As longtime readers know, I have long been an advocate of a disproportionate response to terror attacks and asymmetric warfare. I believe that it's the only kind of response that will have any deterrent effect.Unlike the current administration in the US - and indeed much of the Israeli government - I believe that the general population in both countries gets it. Perhaps this video from 2012 from the popular US television series West Wing is indicative.

Yes. You have to raise the cost so astonishingly high that they will not only stop, but not even CONSIDER repeating the aggression.
