State Department lies, 'Palestinians' tell the truth?
On Monday, I reported that State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki denied a report that had Secretary of State Kerry meeting in London on Wednesday with 'moderate' 'Palestinian' President
Well, guess what happened in London on Wednesday.
US Secretary of State John Kerry held a two-hour discussion with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in London late on Wednesday in their first meeting since US efforts to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal collapsed last month.
During the meeting Kerry emphasized that the "door remains open to peace" talks although made clear it was up to the Israelis and Palestinians to take the necessary steps to resume talks, a senior State Department official said.
The official said Kerry urged both the Palestinians and Israelis to "refrain from unhelpful steps."So does this mean that the Obama-Kerry State Department will continue to hold discussions (not meetings?) with a Hamas-Fatah unity junta? The 'Palestinians' hoped to persuade Kerry, but....
Abbas also updated Kerry on Palestinian political developments, the official said, referring to plans announced by Abbas last month to reconcile Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas into a unity government.
"Secretary Kerry reiterated the need for any Palestinian government to recognize Israel, commit to non-violence, and abide by previous agreements, and thanked President Abbas for his public commitment to these principles," the State Department official said.How helpful.... Of course, if they don't and the US continues talking to them (as appears likely) and giving them money (unless Congress can stop it), there won't be any real consequences to the unity gambit, will there?
What could go wrong?
