Ani Ma'amin (I believe) written on the way to Auschwitz - An amazing story
Here's Chilik Frank playing a version of Ani Ma'amin (I believe). In the first two minutes, he tells the story of the tune, which was written by a Mozitcher Chassid named R. Azriel David Fastag HY"D (May God Avenge his blood) on his way to the death camps. R. Fastag offered half his share in the World to Come to anyone who managed to take his composition to his rabbi, the Mozitcher Rebbe, who by then lived in the United States. Two young boys jumped off the train headed for Auschwitz with the song in their heads. One was murdered immediately on the tracks. The other made it to the United States. The song was originally taught to Ben Zion Shenker, a well-known cantor in the United States, who popularized it.Let's go to the videotape. This one gives me goose bumps.
Labels: Ani Ma'amin, Ben Zion Shenker, Chilik Frank, Holocaust, overnight music video, Rabbi Azriel David Fastag

I never knew the story behind the tune.
Now it will be more difficult for me to sing it whenever it comes up.
