A circle closes?
How about this one?A Haredi journalist points out that the Jewish date of Ariel Sharon's death - the 10th day of the Jewish month of Shvat, falls exactly ten years after the date that the expulsion of Gaza's Jews was announced in an interview with Haaretz's Yoel Marcus (link in Hebrew).
Hmmm.
And there's even more. The same post points out that Rav Ovadiah Yosef zt"l cursed Sharon at the time of the expulsion that he should sink into a coma and never awaken. That happened within a few months.

Carl,
I cannot forgive him. Only the people he hurt could forgive him!
That is not normally how I write about a person but Ariel Sharon's fate is a lesson in the importance of doing what is right.
When we don't repair harm we have done to others promptly, we suffer!
That colors my attitude to Ariel Sharon. He was a monster and not in a good way.
So please excuse me if I cannot mourn for him.

Of course, Ovadia Yosef never did anything to prevent the Expulsion.
I cannot walk with you on this one.
As disgusting as the expulsion from Gush Katif was, it does not negate Arik's lifelong heroism in defense of Israel, including his defeat of the Intifada.
And let's remember a few things - the expulsion from Gaza was a quid pro quo to the U.S. for recognizing the Jewish communities in Area C and all of Jerusalem as part of Israel, as well as other commitments under the Road Map.
You cannot blame Sharon for the rise of the terror infrastructure in Gaza (or Lebanon, for that matter since he wanted to create a Christian and Druze state there after pushing the PLO out). Nor can you blame him for Olmert's actions and half measures, or his failure to help the evacuees, except for the fact Sharon chose him as his deputy, having no idea of his own mortality.
In fact, I have a strong suspicion that Sharon understood that Gaza would become a terrorist swamp, and merely wanted the West to see that before he dealt with it decisively. I guarantee you, there would be no rockets from Hamasistan hitting Israel if he had remained PM. And he would have sent the IDF into Lebanon properly, with good strategy and its full force to destroy the threat from Hezbollah once and for all.
And finally, you cannot blame Sharon for Obama and Clinton's dishonorable breaking of those commitments and claiming they never existed .Or GW Bush's decision to keep his mouth shut and allow that to happen, while Sharon's mouth was sealed.
You have to put the blame where it belongs.
I blame Sharon for only two things...following orders and not shooting Arafat when he had the chance, and not appointing a decent deputy..just in case.
He regretted the first, and lacked th eforsight to see how disasterous the second would be. But then, so did most Israelis.
In any event, that's how I see it.
