US slams Erdogan's remarks

In an earlier post, I reported that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had claimed that Israel is behind the coup in Egypt. The United States has now condemned those remarks.
"We strongly condemn the statements that were made by Prime Minister Erdogan today. Suggesting that Israel is somehow responsible for recent events in Egypt is offensive, unsubstantiated, and wrong," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters in a briefing.
Earlier on Tuesday, Erdogan told provincial leaders of his AK Party: "What do they say in Egypt? Democracy is not the ballot box. What is behind it? Israel. We have in our hands documentation."
What could go wrong?

Mainly I'd say that the "coup" was when the Muslim Bros took dictatorial power, way outside the existing system they were obliged to uphold, to themselves and did lawless deatheating things. The Egyptian military has participated in a recall.
