The best news of the decade for the US public is the energy resources now accessible with newer, proven technologies. We no longer have to buy from any certain people (who want to cut our heads off), so it will be up to them as to whether they want to engage in trade, etc. with the US. But there will be no desperate pressure on the part of the US to keep the spigot flowing. Same with rare element mining, etc. I think these poll results show that Americans are starting to understand this...
Of course, you've got the Green Gaia Progressives (from multiple countries) trying their darndest to block US energy independence (and other countries'), but many are working to get them out of power. I'd like to see the Gaia Green $lu$h recipients' focus convert over to desalination in coastal cities so that the inland areas can keep inland water, rather than siphoning it to the beaches. And cheaper/everbetter scrubbers. And the alt.energy ideas for people and industries who want to go remote and off the grid. Those items (along with Israel's ag innovations) will raise the prospects of inland poverty areas far far more than the Green Gaia Train Robbery.
