I understand that the older photos from the early 20th century were taken at a time when the subject had to sit still and thus often had rather set expressions. What strikes me in all these photos is how unhappy they all look (with the possible exception of Qaddafi, who has a toothy smile, but his photos are as a young man rather than as a child). Makes you really wonder about the cultures they came from and their family lives.
