The origin of the name Tamerlan

I thought the following comment posted by a reader on Debbie Schlussel's website would be of interest to you and your readers.

Tamerlane was also known as Timur:

This individual was a Turk from the 14th century who envisaged restoring the Old Mongol Empire Genghis Khan. Unlike Genghis Khan, Timur was a fanatical Muslim who immodestly referred to himself as “The Sword of Islam”. Needless to say, he was a rather bloody-minded individual. It is estimated that Timur managed to kill off 17 million people during his reign.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s parents did not give him his name by chance.
Hmmm.
