Breaking: Ehud Barak quitting politics

Ehud Barak has decided to quit politics. He will stay in his current position as Defense Minister until there's a new government, but then he's out. Not a huge surprise - in surveys, his party doesn't make the threshold to get into the Knesset, and with the Likud merging with Yisrael Beiteinu, there is very little chance that he would get onto the Likud's Knesset slate. In fact, on Sunday there was a rumor, quickly denied, that Barak would be given a position on the Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu slate. That should have been enough to tell us he was out.
Minister of Defense Ehud Barak announced his intention to quit political life Monday morning at a press conference at the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv.

Barak thanked the public for its continued support but said he will remain in his job as defense in minister until a new government has been formed following coming elections to the Knesset in late January.

Barak added that he had been considering quitting for some time, but Operation Pillar of Defense delayed his announcement.

"I have exhausted politics and I want to dedicate more time to my family," Barak said.
So does Boogie Yaalon become Defense Minister in the next government? That would be a huge improvement.
