Barak preparing groundwork for attack on Iran

If anyone doubts that Israel's defense minister, Ehud Barak, is preparing the groundwork for an Israeli attack on Iran, please consider this statement made from the Knesset plenum today.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday discussed the timing of a possible military strike on Iran, saying, "it would be much more complicated, much more dangerous and much more expensive - to deal with a nuclear[-armed] Iran in the future."

Barak, speaking to the Knesset plenum, added that discussions surrounding the issue are unprecedented in their thoroughness.

"In all the wars and peacemaking in Israel's history, there is no issue that has been dealt with in such depth as Iran has," he said.
You could say that's not saying much, considering that we went to war against Hezbullah in about 2-3 hours six years ago, but in 1967 the government deliberated at great length before the Six Day War, and they appear to be doing that here as well.
Addressing the media attention on the issue, often critical, the defense minister added, "the decision to attack Iran, should the time come, will be made by the government and not by groups of citizens nor editorials."
Hmmm.

It happened fast in '06 because a Hezbullah rocket landed on something someone would actually want to hit. Seemed like something new in the guidance capabilities. Turned out to be dumb luck for Hezbullah, but no one could tell in those first moments. Otherwise, I don't think it would have ramped up that fast. As Leb II showed, going into a battle with your own civilians in the firing zone has got to be carefully thought through and as many people as possible gotten on board. Eg., is water pre-positioned for the troops and the people who have to stay in shelters? It seems like it's not a big deal, but it really is a big deal. In planning, it's like having Katrina or the Japanese earthquake land on you...
