OMG: US Congressman writes constituent that Sharon and Arafat must negotiate

Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Pitts (R) wrote to a constituent that he opposes recognizing the 'Palestinian Authority' and that Ariel Sharon, who has been in a coma since 2006, must negotiate with Yasser Arafat, who has been dead since 2004 (Hat Tip: Shy Guy).
Rep. Pitts, who sits on the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committee, did not comment on the blooper, but the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that his spokesman wrote, “Mistakes are both few and rare but do sometimes occur. This one was particularly embarrassing. We have apologized to the constituent and are reviewing our internal process to make sure this sort of thing can't happen again."

Pitts’ reply apparently was a form letter his office sent to the constituent.

One citizen of Pitts’ district is Ian Rhodewalt, who is spending a year in Ramallah and wrote on the left-wing Mondoweiss website, "Apparently, my Congressman believes that the solution for peace in the Middle East will be reached by encouraging negotiations between a vegetable and a dead man.”

Rhodewalt's father, teacher Scott Rhodewalt, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Rep. Pitts’ response is evidence that “he and his staff must take such little interest in their constituent relationships that they would send this kind of appalling letter.”

He added that he was willing to take time out from his job as teacher to educate Pitts to understand both sides of the Middle East conflict.

"I would be more than happy to help him recuperate from the damage, if some good can come from this,” Rhodewalt said.
It sounds like we might be better off with what Pitts knows now than with what Rhodewalt might teach him. After all, Rhodewalt seems to have done so well with his son....

Holy moly! Good catch, Shy Guy! I'll be checking out in the field with GOP (R) candidates, state legislators, etc. to make sure they have a decent grasp of current events. Is there a good youtube that I should show them? You know I'll give my own experience with incoming rockets from the neighbors, etc.... people need to know 1) the elevations/geography, 2) the basic history of UN, etc. agreements over the years and what they ACTUALLY say (and have NOT ever been repealed), 3) the trial actions that Israel has done (all the way out of Sinai, pull IDF out of Leb, and Gaza, and Israeli civilians out of Gaza and most of "WB", title search status, etc.) with the response from the other side of bombings, shootings, endless warcrime rockets onto Israeli civilians, etc.. We may need the Israel Matzav community to put one together. We seem to have a full range of streams, parties, etc. on here and I think we would do a good job of it.
