Gaza terrorists fire more than 40 100 rockets at Israel, terrorist released in Shalit deal killed

Shavua tov, a good week, once again. This is the first live post of the evening.

'Palestinian' terrorists from Gaza fired some 40 rockets at southern Israel on Friday evening. Six of them were intercepted by Iron Dome, others landed in unpopulated areas, but enough hit their targets that eight people have been hurt, one seriously (Hat Tip: Memeorandum).
Rockets were fired at Be’er Sheva, Ashdod, Kiryat Malachi, Netivot, and Ashkelon, six of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system, one caused damage to a fence in Be’er Sheva, the rest fell in open areas causing no damage, or casualties.

Earlier in the evening, a rocket that fell in a town in the Be’er Tuvia Regional Council caused damage to a house, but no casualties.

One person was seriously wounded by a mortar shell that exploded in the Eshkol Regional Council, and two more were moderately and lightly hurt. The three were evacuated to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva.

Earlier Friday, two other persons were wounded in a car accident caused after a Grad rocket fell near the southern Israeli city of Ashdod. Three more Israelis were lightly wounded when they fell trying to reach bomb shelters when the alarm sounded.
In response, Israel killed the Secretary General of the Popular Resistance Committees - the group that kidnapped IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit - and one of his deputies who was released in the terrorists for Gilad trade.
The hit on the secretary-general of the Popular Resistance Committees, Zuhir al-Qaisi, came after the IDF learned that he had been planning a terror attack on Israel's Highway 12, which runs along the Egypt-Israel border, and was the site of a deadly terror attack in August 2011, in which eight Israelis were killed.

According to the IDF Spokesperson, al-Qaisi was one of the organizers of the August attack.

al-Qaisi was reportedly in his car in northern Gaza, along with his collaborator Mahmoud Hanani, when IDF forces fired two missiles at the vehicle and killed the two.
al-Qaisi, the IDF Spokesman said, was recently organizing a large, coordinated terror attack to be carried out on Israel's border with Gaza. Hanani, a resident of Nablus, and one of the prisoners freed as part of the deal to release Gilad Shalit, and was expelled to the Gaza Strip.

The Popular Resistance Committees responded Friday to the attack, and vowed to avenge al-Qaisi's death in a way that would "shake the Zionist enemy."
I believe that's the first terrorist from the terrorists for Gilad trade to be killed. Hopefully, many more will follow.

JPost updates:
One hundred rockets - Kassams and the longer-range Grads - were fired by midday Saturday at civilian regions. Of those, the Iron Dome anti-rocket system intercepted 25 projectiles heading directly into city centers in Ashdod, Beersheba and Ashkelon. Seventy-five rockets exploded in Israeli territory, most of them in open fields. The barrage came after the IAF foiled a major terror attack, killing the secretary general of the Popular Resistance Committees, Zuhair Qaisi.

...

The rocket barrages tapered off at around 3 a.m., but resumed again on Saturday morning, when air raid sirens rang out in Beersheba and Ashdod.

In the Be'er Tuvia area, police located a rocket explosion site late on Friday night. The windows of a home were shattered and a car was damaged by the projectile. No injuries were reported.
Hamas, Fatah and Egypt have all condemned Israel's retaliatory strikes.

In the next post, I'll have some video for you.

There is not a single reference to rockets at all on CNN.COM at this moment. The only thing, of course is an article on how the mean Jews are 'escalating' attacks on the completely innocent Arabs. The NY Times for its part buried an article deep in the World section and didn't mention rockets until the last sentence of the column which rand to 4 column inches. All it could muster was "The IDF 'claimed that' about 90 rockets were fired".

Now since both CNN and the NYT claim to have permanent full time staff in Israel who never hesitate to write endless articles if an Arab goat keels over from thirst one would hazard a guess that they must at least be aware on some level that this occurring. Since they fail to note any of this then it can only because they are actively working with the Arabs to murder Israelis and guest workers in Israel. It is now 5:54 eastern time.

I agree with "occupation". OTOH the deal allowed these human garbage to be taken out irreversibly. In prison, the state of Israel would have been responsible for their personal security and even for their well-being.
