Hamas bans 'Gaza's got talent'
Maybe
Gaza has no talent....
The Hamas government in the Gaza Strip has banned residents of the coastal enclave from participating in the national reality singing show "New Star."
The first episode of "New Star," which follows the format of popular shows like "American Idol" and "The X-Factor," was recorded in Gaza City via video link in December, and around 120 people turned up to audition.
But the successful contestants will not be able to continue in the competition as the Gaza government media office has since banned the talent show, which is produced by Ma'an TV and broadcast on the Ma'an-Mix satellite channel.
Hasan Abu Hashish, who heads the media office in the Hamas-run government, told Ma'an's public relations director Ala al-Abed that the program was "indecent."
Not even a women's only program for the women performers....

Cral, if Rav Elyashiv and the Badatz would be running TV, what would be different?
Ah, yes. There wouldn't be TV at all!
I don't think that's true.
If they were running TV, it might still exist, but the content would be very different and watching it would not be such a massive waste of time.
In the post, I also alluded to the fact that a talent show like that might be permitted, but certainly the women participants would only be allowed to perform in front of women. We are both familiar with women-only bands and the like that perform only for women.
Hamas banned it altogether. Not just segregation but banned outright.
Carl, Hamas banned this as a TV program, not as a program for women only in an auditorium.
So, at the end of the day, this is parallel to Halacha in more ways than less.
No. The first paragraph is quite clear that it's not just banned for television. They banned the contest altogether.
Well at least Hamas would never show a Burka strip tease then, hmmmmm:)
Because it's broadcast, as stated a few paragraphs down.
