Canada reconsidering its role in UNESCO
In light of Monday's vote to accept the imaginary state of 'Palestine' as a member of UNESCO, Canada is reconsidering its membership. If Canada withdraws, UNESCO would lose another $10 million in budget contributions in addition to the $60 million it lost when the United States announced that it will no longer pay its contribution. But Canada is going even further. The United States is not withdrawing.Canada will reconsider its role in UNESCO following the organization's acceptance of Palestine as a member state, AFP quoted Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird as telling reporters on Monday.Israel and the US should also withdraw. But don't hold your breath waiting for the US to withdraw. That won't happen with this President in office.
"We are in the process of evaluating our future participation" in UNESCO, Baird told reporters, adding that "We are not happy with UNESCO's decision. We are working to determine what our response will be."
Canada contributes $10 million a year to UNESCO.
