Another confirmation of the Sarkozy-Obama complaints about Netanyahu
Ben Smith believes it too (Hat Tip: Memeorandum). The report is utterly believable -- that's actually the most suspicious thing about it. If you I were going to imagine, it might be about how irritating both find Benjamin Netanyahu, with Sarkozy bluntly calling him a liar, and Obama seeming to sympathize, but not quite showing his cards: "You're sick of him -- but I have to deal with him every day!"Two comments.
This is, if confirmed, the sort of thing that made up most of the WikiLeaks dossier scandals: Things that are widely understood, but not supposed to be spoken aloud. It would not be likely to warm up the U.S.-Israeli relationship that's become an election-year irritant to a White House with its eye on Florida.
The original report says a half-dozen -- apparently, though not explicitly, French -- reporters heard the conversation, but that they and their bosses jointly decided not to report off the glitch, on the grounds that to do so would mark some sort of ethical breach, something I don't quite understand. The report also claims that the substance turned up in a Le Monde report asserting, without a source, Obama and Sarkozy had complained in private about their "difficult relations" with Netanyahu.
UPDATE: The reporter for Le Monde, Arnaud Leparmentier, tweets to me that he didn't hear the conversation, and declined to disclose his source.
First, yes it is utterly believable. I'm actually waiting to hear how Netanyahu reacts. Unfortunately, he will probably say nothing, but I think that there ought to be a whispering campaign to use this against Obama among Israel's supporters in the US. It's right up there with using the back entrance to the White House, the meeting without any photo-ops, being abandoned while Obama ate dinner with his family.... Do I need to go on?
Second, you can tell that Ben Smith is based in the US by his comment that he doesn't understand why those French reporters would have agreed with their bosses not to disclose the conversation. In the US, there is still some semblance of a free press (at least outside the hallowed halls of the New York Times). In Europe and in Israel (which sycophantically follows Europe), there is an agenda to be followed and that agenda values political correctness over truth.

Arnaud Leparmentier......
Froggie is afraid, I know them, have them in the family
My first thought was that the pro-Israel community in the US should use this against Obama. I still think they should, but those who support Obama will try to differentiate between Israel and Netanyahu. Claiming as they always have that its all Netenyahu's fault for not following what the Messiah in the Oval Office tells him to do. Anything to protect their Democrats even to the detriment of the USA as well as the rest of the world.
Didn't Sarkozy laugh at the idea of a Jewish state, because he can't get his tiny head around the idea of Jews as a people? No doubt Obama shares his sentiment.
That they complain about Bibi but patiently accept Abbas' lies and intransigence and use them as an excuse to put the screws to Israel says it all.
Professor Miao is totally correct.
Abbas has only demands. He doesn't want to negotiate on anything, only to get more and more and more.
Peace is impossible because Palestinian leaders reject any solution that implies acceptance of a Jewish State alongside an Arab one. They are willing to wait decades for total victory. No amount of unilateral Israeli concessions or goodwill gestures will bring about peace. Israel’s position has mellowed over the decades while the other side remains unswervingly committed to the goal of seeking Israel’s destruction. There is no way to bridge the differences between the Arabs and the Jews in our lifetime.
Palmediawatch has docmented the Palestinians genocidal intentions. I advise everyone to read this and oppose Islamo Fascism

Hmmm... here's what Glenn Reynolds says about this on instapundit.com
"Actually, this is probably just an effort, rather clumsily and obviously executed, to create distance before Israel whacks the Iranian nuke program."
Umm. So I wonder why Glenn thinks they would want to "create distance"? I'm hoping the U.S. will fight with Israel, if you guys decide to. Maybe the troops are coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan and being billeted somewhere handy? Wouldn't be human shields/hostages and would be ready. That would be brilliant.
I'm confused. Does this mean Netanyahu is anti-American, since he dislikes President Obama?
If Obama's relationships with rev. wright and terrorist lover khalidi didn't bury Obama with the Jewish vote, nothing will.
free, nothing will. The history of Leftist practice is that some people have to be off'ed in order to perfect the purge. What I think we see now is Lefty Jews (in multiple countries) trying to support the imposition of Leftist governance, while staying alive. So, while they are being slimed by their Leftist comrades, these people are trying to position themselves and theirs into some position of favor, so that while the purge progresses, they will be unscathed. In history, this has been a total wipe out for the Jews. Ever so confusing how it just keeps going on.
Sunlight wrote; "Ever so confusing how it just keeps going on." --- Not really, you know the saying "Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It". It seems people either can't or don't remember even what happened a few months ago or last year. How can we expect them to remember what happened decades or centuries ago?? The MSM is dead set against any facts that they don't like, they only offer propaganda.
