Congress withholds $200 million in aid to 'Palestinians'

Shavua tov v'Shana tova, a good week and a good year to all. Also a Gmar Hatima Tova - may you all be sealed in the books of life, health and happiness.

London's Daily Independent is reporting that the United States Congress withheld $200 million in aid to the 'Palestinian Authority' in the fiscal year that ended on Saturday in anger over 'Moderate' 'Palestinian' President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen's applying to the United Nations for 'statehood.' Of course, this is contrary to the wishes of the Obama administration.

This is from the first link, and of course it tries to make the US sound cruel for not donating money to the Palithugs.
The freezing of the funds, which were to have been dispersed in the US fiscal year that ends today, is the most tangible sign yet of the seriousness of Congressional leaders' threats of an even wider halt to funding in the coming year if Mr Abbas continues with his actions at the UN. It was strongly condemned yesterday by the Palestinian Authority.

There have been persistent demands in Congress to withhold up to $600m – the average amount given by the US in bilateral assistance to the West Bank and Gaza every year since 2008 – in the next financial year over the issue.

The administration remains, as does Congress, opposed to the Palestinians' application for full UN membership, which Mr Abbas submitted last week. But it argues that assistance to the Palestinian people is what a US official described as "an essential part of the US commitment to a secure future and two-state solution for Palestinians".

Former President Bill Clinton, among others, this month warned legislators to leave the issue of aid to the administration, adding: "Everybody knows the US Congress is the most pro-Israel parliamentary body in the world. They don't have to demonstrate that."
Well good for Congress. It's about time someone said "no" to the 'Palestinian' spoiled brats.

Here in Falls Church, VA, the local ant-Semitic editor has just published an article and guest commentary denoucing the "Israel lobby" for forcing the Society of Professional Journalists to retire the lifetime award named after martyr-to-Zionism Helen Thomas. Were this only true, the Falls Church News Press at least would be very indignant.

I don't see other sources to this apart from JPost referencing it, and they only repeat the report without confirming it. It is unconfirmed. This may be bogus--there's been no reports of Congress taking up Palestinian assistance; they've been dealing with other issues--and unless there was a freeze in the very short-term continuing Senate resolution just passed, this needs further verification.
