Report: Erdogan not going to Gaza

Israel Radio reports (8:30 am) that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will not visit Gaza when he visits Egypt next week. The report is based upon Turkish diplomatic sources.

And here's a report out of Ankara that says the same thing.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyep Erdogan is to visit Egypt on September 12, and is not to visit Gaza, a Turkish government spokesperson told a press conference in Ankara today.

Speaking under condition of anonymity, the spokesperson commented on news reports following the sacking of the Israeli Ambassador confirm PM Erdogan's visit to Cairo but not to Gaza since in his words, time was not ripe enough for it.

The Turkish spokesperson was commenting on news reports in Istanbul about Erdogan's intention to visit Gaza through Rafah border crossing as an expression of opposition to the Israeli blockade of Gaza.
I guess that Erdogan has decided that maybe it isn't worth all costs to try to destroy Israel. Heh.

UPDATE 9:01 AM

Israel Radio just implied that Egypt is preventing Erdogan from visiting Gaza. Israel Radio, again based on Turkish sources, reports that according to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, a visit to Gaza would require Egyptian consent. The implication is that such consent was not sought or could not be obtained.

Maybe the Egyptians have decided to be rational and not to further worsen their relations with us.

When I saw your original headline that Erdogan wasn't going to Gaza after all, I figured it was probably the Egyptian military (their current govt?) that said no. And the reason would not be to maintain the relationship with Israel. It would be that recent "protests" have shown that when the Egyptians smell Jew blood, they go nuts. They will be ungovernable if Erdogan goes to Gaza and incites the bloodlust...

Why does the Egyptian Army have a say. I thought the peaceful peace loving Palestinians of peace have a legitimate self government the result of free and fair elections that none other than Dhimmi Carter has blessed? Are they not in charge of their own affairs? Do the Evil Global Space Jews control the Egyptian Army as well? There needs to be another Goldstone report to look into that.
