How about that powerhouse Turkish economy?
Is this an action that a country with booming economy takes?Turkish Development Minister Cevdet Yılmaz has said the government plans to decrease the maximum hours worked per week by three to four hours in order to boost employment, the Sabah daily reported on Monday.Maybe Turkey's economy isn't in such great shape after all. Heh.
Yılmaz said current legislation on working hours has prevented a decrease in Turkey's unemployment rate. “There is a system which encourages long working hours rather than more employment. This is not sustainable,” he said.
The minister added that the government aims to encourage more people with the planned legislation. Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan also said earlier that reducing weekly working hours by even four hours could bring the unemployment rate down by 3 to 5 percent.
Working hours in Turkey are regulated on the basis of Law No. 4857 of the Labor Law, which was enacted in May 2003 to replace Law No. 1475, in effect since 1971, and the Regulation on Working Time Relating to the Labor Law, adopted by the ministry in June 2004. Article 63 of Law No. 4857 limits the maximum number of hours worked per week to 45, unchanged since Law No. 1475, with several exceptions and exemptions. Although working time is limited to 45 hours per week, in practice people often work as many as 49 hours in both the private and public sector.

I'm reading a really interesting, if wordy, biography of Che Guevara (by Jon Lee Anderson)... if you want to read the process of these marxist "revolutionary" crap countries, read this book. They attack "the rich", the "rich" hunker down to protect themselves, thus reducing the energy in the economy, then the marxist dictators start killing and jailing people, then they confiscate and nationalize stuff. Except that they are dunces when it comes to actually doing such a boring thing a producing something. So then the countries fall apart and people starve, fight, kill, die. Put on top of the marxist destruction the caliphate/jihadi requirements and really people should just head for the hills. I hope the U.S. can hold out until after the 2012 elections. And apologies to anybody who looked to the U.S. economy as a place to sell into. If we don't vote out the Obama posse in 2012, then huge swaths of the planet will starve.
BTW, re marxist propaganda, did anyone else notice that the yahoo.com splash page has had mutiple headlines re Obama taxing the rich? No scare quotes, no nothing. Just agitprop against the mythical rich that we are instructed by Obama to envy and covet their stuff.
