They still hate us

The Beeb has an annual poll in which they ask residents of 25 countries (which do not include Israel) whether a list of 16 countries (which do include Israel) have a positive or a negative influence on the World. The results of the 2011 poll are summarized above.

The good news is that our positive rating went up by 2% and our negative rating is no longer tied with North Korea and has put some distance between us and Iran and Pakistan.

The bad news is that a lot more people still hate us than love us. That prompted the JPost to call us one of the least popular countries.

We got net positive results in only four of the 25 countries (US, Russia, Ghana and India). We were slammed by Egypt and Turkey, but Egypt was actually an improvement from 92% negative(!) to 78%. In the US, our positive rating stayed at 43%, while our negative rating went up from 31% to 41%. The Obama effect? We also had significant increases in negative ratings in the UK and Canada.

Alana Goodman says that the poll is a sign that we need a hasbara overhaul.
The anti-Israel movement is waging an extremely successful PR battle in the West. The reason isn’t because it has the truth on its side — far from it. It’s because it’s become adept at handling a media that is already unsympathetic to Israel. This poll is yet another example of why the Israeli government needs to consider a massive overhaul of its ineffective (nonexistent?) public-relations strategy.
Our 'public relations' (hasbara) strategy would also probably be a lot more effective if our 'diplomats' would get with the program.

Carl - it would be more effective if Israel would stop apologizing for its existence and start talking in the language of rights rather than in the language of concessions.

No one respects a doormat. And unless Israel changes the way it deals with the world, a sustained hasbara effort is highly unlikely to turn things around for the Jewish State.

Carl,
I say we either launch a massive class action suit --- LAWFARE --- or do what the haters do to sway public opinion:

Poor South Korea is down there as well! What on earth have they ever done to anyone? All this shows is peoples' general prejudices. I shouldn't worry about it.

Be proud of your country - an oasis of freedom in a desert of tyranny.
