'You can't replace a soldier fighting on his own land for his own country'
Here's Major General (Res) Uzi Dayan on how to make peace.Discussions of security arrangements cannot take the place of sovereignty and control of territory, says Dayan, who was Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces. Israel should discuss borders only after it is satisfied on security, refugees and settlements, since the territory we now control now is Israel's only card to play. Any agreement on a Palestinian state must be implemented in stages over a number of years to see if it works. Israel must clarify what it wants: a Jewish democratic state, united Jerusalem as Israel's capital, zero Palestinian right of return to Israel and defensible borders.Let's go to the videotape.
And it should be obvious to all of you that what Dayan is describing is the most Israel can give and it's far less than anything to which the 'Palestinians' will agree.

Seems like an important concept at 1:20... but I couldn't get it. "We don't need security; we need (what?)." Also it's interesting to hear him talk about doing one thing, then letting some time go by to see how it works, then doing the next thing...etc. I've thought that forever. And I think most in the U.S. will agree with him because you tried the all-at-once approach in southern Leb and in Gaza and got rockets.
BTW, in case you haven't run into this, there are surprising people in the U.S. who think this man has the coolest name ever. They want to be "Uzi" too!
The Palestinians will never agree to Israel's demands so any talk of a two state solution will remain a pipe dream in our lifetime.
