Video: Best video of Haifa fire
This is the best video I've seen of the Haifa fire in the Carmel forest. This was shot from an Arab area of Haifa called Alonswa and it's the clearest video I've seen of the fire.You can tell it's an Arab neighborhood because the houses are all different (in most Jewish neighborhoods, the houses are identical), and because you can hear people talking in Arabic.
This is NOT the neighborhood where there were reports of celebrations earlier.

Several years ago, I took my oldest son for a father-son bonding trip in the Carmel forest. It's literally right next to the city, which is why we're hearing stories about neighborhoods in the city being evacuated (Danye is being evacuated now - it's one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the city).
They're not trying to control the fire before morning - they're just trying to keep it from spreading. They're digging trenches alongside it to try to direct it, and they don't anticipate it stopping until it hits Highway 4.
Over 7,000 dunams have already been burnt.

A friend said the fire is moving toward the west and passed not too far from Technion. If your forests are well maintained, it will burn through, clearing out the underbrush and won't kill the trees. Some of the big fires in the west in the U.S. have been burning through, killing the trees and the seeds in the dirt. This is because U.S. has had Smokey the Bear putting out every fire for the last half century, without clearing out the underbrush in the areas never allowed to burn. It burns really hot when there is a lot of downed fuel under the canopy. Some organizations like the Scouts, who own big swaths, have been putting teenage boy muscle into clearing out underbrush to keep the inevitable fire from wiping out the place. Does the Tzofim work on your forests?
