Take Gaza students to Holocaust Museum? Why not?

It sounds like a shockingly good idea, and from a surprising source. UNRWA wants to take the top students in Gaza on a field trip all the way to Washington DC to see the United States Holocaust Museum (pictured). There's one small problem: Hamas doesn't want them to go.
Hamas condemned on Saturday the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees for its intention to take excelling Gazan students on a visit to the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C.

The terror group called the plan "suspicious", and demanded that the initiative be dropped. It also called on the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank to "take a national stand for halting the moral corruption of superior Palestinian youth".

"The tours on human rights which UNRWA is organizing abroad, especially in New York, include visits to the Holocaust Museum and the site on which the twin towers stood," says a statement issued by Hamas.

"UNRWA clerks have offered explanations of the Holocaust, and expressed in them empathy for the Jewish people for what it underwent. UNRWA must focus on materials regarding the rights of the Palestinian refugees without dealing with persecution in other areas of the world," the statement adds.

"The memory of the children of Gaza cannot withstand the suffering of all of the persecuted people around the world. The suffering caused by the Jewish occupiers is enough. Besides, the United States has no claim to human rights, as it violates them every day around the world and in its own territory."
I guess Hamas wants to make the United States its next target after Israel. Maybe take the kids to Yad VaShem instead? No, they won't do that either. It would get in the way of their teaching Holocaust denial.

Teaching their children to love others gets in the way of their decades long dream.

No wonder Hamas is beside itself! Sympathy for the Jews just makes it harder for them to teach Palestinian kids to hate.

Someday, they will really love their own children more than they hate the Jews. That day is not today.

These children should absolutely be educated about the holocaust. And in reciprocation, Israeli children should be taken to live for a week in Gaza, the living museum of Apartheid persecution, so that they too understand the bigger picture. Then maybe we can all stop the insanity of violent escalation and figure out how everyone, Christian and Muslim Palestinians and Israeli Jews, can live with the full dignity of their human rights.

Baldarab,

Gazan kids visting the Holocaust Museum in Washington would be completely safe.

Jewish kids visiting Gaza for a week would have very little chance of getting out alive.

That's the difference.

That may be your view. And if that were true, a large part of that reason is that the deplorable suffering and ethnic cleansing of Jews in Europe is history which is rightly consigned to a museum, whereas the ethnic cleansing and suffering of Palestinian children is very much alive and kicking at the hands of Israel today. So finding a way for both future generations to understand each other's perspectives can only be good for us all.

BaldArab, you can take your lies and drown them in the waters of Gaza.

It is the Arabs and the Muslims - both Shi'ites and Sunnis - advocating the destruction of the Jewish people.

The suffering of your stupid people is both self-inflicted and inflicted upon them by you Arabs yourselves, who did nothing but incite these people to murder and terrorize Jews for the last 100 years.

You can't take what you dish out? Too bad!

thanks shyguy.

let's not start on lies. the nazi holocaust was a german affair. palestinian muslims and christians had as much to do with that as brazilians or mongolians. palestinians were not the ones inflicting suffering on the jews.

to call the suffering of the palestinians "self-inflicted" is ignorant in the extreme - israel's own leaders have gone on record that their intent was to clear palestine of arabs. this is not a fact hidden by them (they at least had the honesty to say this, though sadly many of their followers elected not to hear this inconvenient part of the truth). so, shyguy, go look up your own history as told by your own leaders before making these bizarre and destructive claims.
